What the day will look like
The North AmericaFinancial Crime Compliance Counsel will report into the Chief Counsel & Compliance Officer of North America and be part of the North America Law and Compliance team to help manage all Financial Crime risks and drive compliance and risk management in accordance with Aon’s Financial Crime global vision, mission and principles set out below. This includes Aon’s policies, standards, and guidelines across Aon’s North America business, partnering with all relevant parts of the business.
The role will partner across the three lines of defense and direct and help strengthen and maintain a robust Financial Crime control environment and culture across Aon North America, and also be part of a global Financial Crime strategy group within Aon’s Law and Compliance Department, led by the Global Chief Compliance Officer.
The role assists Aon in achieving strategic objectives, promoting efficiency, reducing the risk of loss, and helping ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, laws, and regulations enabling compliant growth and innovation in today’s constantly evolving environment with technology which can enable increased Financial Crime risk.
Responsibilities:
- Support the North America Chief Counsel & Compliance Officer in fulfilling the objective of supporting the business to achieve sustainable growth and innovation in North America.
- Support the Global Chief Compliance Officer as part of the global Financial Crime strategy group that manages the control environment.
- Oversee and coordinate relevant compliance resources in the most effective and efficient way, partnering with Aon Business Services to achieve vision, mission and goals in relation to Financial Crime.
- Provide management information, reporting and analysis of Financial Crime matters in the most impactful way to relevant Committees within Aon’s enterprise risk management framework to ensure a demonstrably robust assessment of the control environment is provided to the Committees to facilitate effective oversight for Financial Crime risk.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for Aon's reputation by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Review, address, and raise significant issues and activities to the North America Chief Compliance Officer and the relevant Committees.
- Understand the business products and services delivered and maintained within Aon’s North America operation.
- Drive a consistent and broad approach to AML & ABC and wider Financial Crimes risk management across the region and in collaboration with the global Financial Crime strategy group to enable a consistent approach.
- Build strong working relationships with first, second and third line colleagues to ensure early engagement on new business initiatives and timely support of commercial priorities and full adherence to global and regional risk management policies and procedures.
- Identify, monitor, report and resolve any Financial Crime related issues or gaps in the control framework.
- Respond to inquiries and requests from regulators.
- Conduct reviews of processes, procedures and training programs to ensure policy requirements are fit for purpose and have been implemented consistently, with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Maintain current knowledge and understanding of new and changing AML & ABC requirements and continuously reassess the impact on Aon clients, products, and services.
- Participate as an active member of the North America Law and Compliance Leadership Team and other Committees as directed by the North America Chief Compliance Officer
- Prepare presentations to update senior management and various enterprise risk management Committees on North AmericaFinancial Crime developments, emerging risks, control issues and/or enhancements.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- 10+ years’ experience in Financial Crime risk frameworks, including proven success participating in a three lines of defense framework
- 5+ years leading risk management functions within a large sophisticated financial/professional services organization.
- Financial Crime certification preferred.
- Experience in advising and managing on all Financial Crime matters (AML, ABC, Sanctions, Fraud Detection & Prevention and Market Abuse) for US corporations in the financial and professional services sector. This includes advising and monitoring client due diligence and know your client activities.
- Demonstrated ability and confidence to challenge business management, raise issues and press for change.
- Bachelors Degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience. Masters Degree preferred.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $160,000 to $215,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
