Job description

The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences at Utah State University is seeking to fill a full-time (9 month) tenure-track Assistant Professor position in our Food Science program.  The role for this position is 50% research, 45% teaching, and 5% Service.  Applicants must have a PhD in Food Science or related area. Candidates will be expected to establish an extramurally funded and nationally recognized program of research that complements or expands existing departmental research in the area of Food Science. The department has established research programs in the areas of dairy, meat, and confectionery science. We welcome candidates who will be able to help us expand our capacity in the area of sensory science, product development, and or sustainable food production. 

 

The department is interested in candidates with experience and interest in working with interdisciplinary teams to identify and implement science-driven solutions to problems related to food. 

 

Review of applications will start on June 15 and the position will remain open until filled. The proposed start date is August 1, 2023 or January 1, 2024.


Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Sensory evaluation. This is an upper division and required course in our undergraduate program in Food Science. Graduate students may also register for this course.

  • Food product development. This is an upper division and required course in our undergraduate program in Food Science. Graduate students may also register for this course.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Food Science or related field.
  • Research experience evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national/ international conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing and publishing scientific papers.
  • Commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at a technical and non-technical level, and with university faculty, staff and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated research and or industry expertise working in the area of sensory science and/or product development.
  • Post-doctoral research.
  • Experience in developing an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Experience teaching in the areas of sensory evaluation and/or food product development at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated record of funding from competitive federal and industry sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students to degree completions.
  • Demonstrated experience in face-to-face and online teaching.
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.
