Job description

Department of Engineering, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Entry-level, tenure track Assistant Professor (Electrical Engineering).

Successful candidate for this position will: develop a significant externally funded research program that includes a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and graduate student mentorship; effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses, actively participate in assigned department and university duties; and demonstrate leadership in relevant technical societies.

The course list includes:

ECE 5310 Control Systems (MAE 5310 Dynamic Systems and Controls): This course explores the fundamental concepts regarding modeling physical systems and the analysis and design of feedback control systems via mainly classical control methods.

ECE 6930 Distributed Control: Over the last two decades, synchronization has been a popular subject in multi-agent systems because of its vast array of applications ranging from flight formation to energy networks. From a control theory viewpoint, the fundamental problem in synchronization is: How should distributed controllers (i.e., local interactions between the agents and control protocols) be structured to ensure that the synchronization is achieved? This course explores how to analyze and synthesize distributed controllers for multi-agent systems with different levels of complexity.

ECE 6040 Convex Optimization: This course explores the fundamentals of convex analysis and optimization problems, optimality conditions, and duality theory. Over the course, students are trained to gain the ability to recognize and formulate engineering problems as convex optimization problems and derive and solve problems using off-the-shelf solvers.

Candidates must have: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (foreign equivalent degree is acceptable); demonstrated strong background in engineering fundamentals; expertise in one of research areas including control systems (autonomous systems, controls and robotics, or distributed systems), space systems engineering (small satellites, space weather sensors, spacecraft instrumentation), or embedded systems (embedded processor systems, FPGA systems, hardware cybersecurity, security and privacy in cyber-physical systems, or embedded control systems); ability to teach in the area of expertise; ability to conduct and disseminate research in an area within the discipline as evidenced by an established publication record; and effective communication and interpersonal skills. (Required skills and publication/presentation requirements may be earned during advanced educational studies.)

Preferred qualifications include a track record of research funding; and evidence of effective teaching.
