Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty,12 month, tenure track or Professional Practice position. Extension faculty develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs to enhance quality of life for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This Extension position includes university responsibilities and is based in Weber and Morgan Counties. As this Extension position is regional, office space is provided at the USU/Weber County Extension office in Ogden and the USU/Morgan County Extension office in Morgan, Utah. We welcome candidates with diverse interests and experience related to Agriculture.

 

The estimated start date for this position is May 1, 2024.

 

Rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and current rank. Appointment opportunities include Extension Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track), or Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). A Master's degree is required for Extension Assistant or Associate ranks. A Bachelor's degree and substantial professional experience is required for the Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor


  • Provide leadership to Extension activities such as production agriculture, small acreage pasture management, urban and small farms agriculture production, livestock production, range management, and crops.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for adults. Collaborate and implement programs for youth as needed such as Farm Field Days and Water Fairs.
  • Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences such as the development of on-line courses and educational videos.
  • Work with on-campus specialists in developing applied research projects, program development, and delivery to clientele.
  • Pursue external and internal funding to support Extension programming.
  • Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming.
  • Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers.
  • Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension.
  • Serve and collaborate with other Extension and University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A completed Master’s degree (for tenure track) or a completed Bachelor's degree plus substantial professional experience (for Professional Practice track) in the areas of animal science, range science/management, Extension education, agronomy/crop science, or other closely related agricultural fields.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and collect impacts for educational programs.
  • Experience in teaching adult audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between federal, state, university, and county clientele.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from office and events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with program development and/or delivery related to small acreage pasture management.
  • Experience with technical assistance for urban and small farm agriculture producers.
  • Experience with program development and/or delivery related to livestock production (especially beef cattle), dairy cattle, range management, and crop production.
  • Skills and experience with implementing applied research activities.
  • Skills and experience with grant writing.
  • Skills and experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
  • Skills and experience with low income and under-served audiences.
  • Skills and experience with social media.
  • Skills and experience in developing on-line courses.
  • Skills and experience with related organizations/agencies and fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with the Land Grant University System.
