What You Will Do:

The Assistant Director for New Student Programs provides leadership and direction for the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive programs that support the personal and academic success for New Students at National Louis University. The incumbent plans and executes New Student and parent orientation, recruits, trains, and offers continuing support and leader development to Orientation Leaders and First Year Mentors. In addition, the incumbent coordinates on-site and remote orientation activities for new transfer and graduate students; and is the divisional lead for the implementation of NLU101, the university-wide online onboarding for all NLU students. The Assistant Director serves as a integral member of the Student Engagement team which is committed to ensuring students’ personal growth, well-being and engagement through service excellence.


 

  • New Student Orientation: Oversee and Coordinate orientation programs for all students entering National Louis. Recruit, train, and supervise 20-25 orientation leaders. Creates and maintains the assessment plan for the Orientation program. Connect with marketing to create and update all marketing material and online content. Hire and supervise NODA interns. Maintain quarterly online orientation through D2L and coordinate all content updates.  Coordinate with University partners (e.g., Undergraduate, Transfer and Graduate Admissions, University Marketing and Communications) to manage marketing to and communications with first-year students and their families; including print materials, websites, emails, texts, and social media.
  • First Year Mentor Program: Oversee the First -Year Mentor Program curriculum.  Supervise and train 20 First Years Mentors. Provide monthly leadership development. Meet with first year mentors individually quarterly.  Create program assessment plan and report assessment information.
  • Assists in all Student Engagement events and programming and plan quarterly Welcome Week activities, and promote New Student engagement in a vibrant campus experience. Serve as the advisor for Alpha Lamda Delta honor society and Tau Sigma transfer student honor society. First Year Experience: Along with the first mentors plan and execute events for all first-year students quarterly.
  • Transfer Initiatives: Serve on the D2S committee. Assist in planning of Transfer Week and all other transfer student events; monitor the Transfer Experience on Presences.
  • As part of the Student Engagement team, provide support to departmental activities and initiatives such as commencement, student organizations development, annual events and campus traditions.
  • Serve as divisional lead for development and delivery of NLU-101, the university-wide online onboarding for all NLU students for each term start.

*This position will require some travel to other campuses within the Chicagoland area.

 


 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Higher Education, Adult Education.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in Student Affairs, or Advising, first year experience or orientation, and student life.
  • Experience working with a highly diverse, non-traditional student population.
  • Knowledge of student programming and event planning.
