A Pearl Assistant Director of Human Resourcesreports to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for creating leaders and fostering the Pearl culture within the hotel departments for Pearl Hospitality. TheAssistant Director of Human Resourcesshould have HR Generalist knowledge, and be versed in the areas of benefits, workforce planning, recruitment and staffing strategies, wage and salary administration, training, and development, coaching and counseling, labor relations, and diversity initiatives. This highly visible role assists in short- and long-term planning of the HR function and is heavily involved in execution the hotel’s HR initiatives, as well as the day-to-day operations and administration of the Human Resources Department. TheAssistant DirectorHuman Resourcesmust possess the highest level of professionalism and courtesy, leading the office in the absence of the Director of Human Resources and will work collaboratively to support and guide the daily operations of the property, teams, and leaders of the Westin Houston Medical Center Hotel. TheAssistant DirectorHuman Resourceswill lead and inspire teams to have fun! This role is very involved in planning and executing associate appreciation and driving associate engagement & company culture. The Assistant Director of Human Resourcesmust assist managers in aligning the hotel policies and procedures with the overall business objectives. This includes driving results through effective implementation of hotel strategy, hiring and retention of the best associates, overseeing all associate relations and labor related matters as they relate to federal, state, and local employment and civil rights laws.
Responsibilities – (not limited to)
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
Prior hotel experience preferred
Must be flexible with schedule to include weekends
Must have working knowledge of MS Excel, Google Suite
Must possess high energy, professionalism, and confidence every day and in every way

- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
Participate in Pearl required daily and weekly meetings with enthusiasm and commitment to success
Attend department meetings and provide support the department heads as needed
- Facilitate Pearl and Westin brand training to department managers to ensure they fully comply with Brand standards and the federal and state laws
- Ensure Managers administer timely execution of associate performance evaluations
- Must be capable to successfully prioritize, delegate, organize and multi-task
- Must be able to conduct daily business with integrity and be ethical at all times
- Treat guests, associates, vendors and co-workers with professionalism and respect at all times
- Must have ability to coach, counsel, advise, mentor, and motivate associates & managers at all levels
- Manage the talent acquisition process & hiring process by overseeing hourly recruitment including internal talent as well as Manager in Training programs, focusing in hiring and retaining top talent.
Assist with candidate outreach to include job fairs, external job boards, etc.
Perform payroll function
Manage benefits discrepancy report monthly
Assist with EEOC and Affirmative Action compliance
- Facilitate open associate communications to discern grievances and respond appropriately
Instruct managers in developing alternatives & solutions to associate concerns
- Act as a hotel liaison between hotel staff and management if needed
Must maintain a safe working environment through ongoing compliance of safety guidelines
Process new hire paperwork for management hires
Create all new hire announcements
Facilitate New Hire Orientation & HR-related trainings
Manage the termination process and personnel information with diligence and confidentiality
Manage associate relations programs, activities, and initiatives to include, but not limited to, holiday functions, community service, activations, associate rallies, and special events.
Be able to work well in high-pressure situations and meet or beat deadlines
Process unemployment claims
Manage all workman compensation claims for associates
Assist with compensation & wage planning
Maintain high level of associate job satisfaction, moral and teamwork of associates through proper associate selection, ongoing training, and regular associate appreciation
Prepare & administer Associate Satisfaction surveys quarterly (PAOS)
Partner with management and finance to develop and monitor the department's budget. Keep a pulse on the competitors' compensation and benefits and associate satisfaction to meet and exceed business goals.
Perform other tasks that are deemed necessary to the success of Pearl, the Westin hotel, and the associates
