It will not supervise another position at this time. Job Summary:Job Summary:Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Career Development, the Assistant Director will assist the Director in implementing an innovative and compelling vision for Career Development that aligns with Spartanburg Methodist College’s mission and strategic priorities. To accomplish this, the Assistant Director will focus primarily on providing comprehensive career counseling, internship and job placement support, and leading Career Development events. Specifically, the Assistant Director will provide exemplary career guidance and support for success in the job/internship search or application/ acceptance into graduate/professional school. The Assistant Director will have faculty status, teaching up to six credit hours of Professional Development Courses a semester. Primary Areas of Responsibilities:Primary Areas of Responsibilities:Primary Areas of Responsibilities:Career Counseling: Conduct individual and group sessions to assist all students in setting career goals, exploring options, and devising and accomplishing tailored career plans. Utilize institutional career tools, including PathwayU and Handshake, to aid students in accomplishing their goals. Career Counseling:Internship, Job, and Graduate School Support: Aid students in crafting resumes, cover letters, and job search strategies. Develop and actively promote internship and employment opportunities for SMC students through face-to-face outreach, email, print and social media posts, and collaboration with advisors. Support students in the graduate school application process including hosting graduate school recruiting visits, educational workshops, resources for test prep, and application material creation. Internship, Job, and Graduate School Support:Career Development Events: Under the guidance of the Director and professional development department, implement strategic career events that align with bachelor’s degree growth, student interests, and industry needs. Programming may include, but is not limited to, fairs, workshops, panels, speakers, and presentations. Responsible for event management, including event setup, securing professional guests, and student participation. Career Development Events: Employer & Alumni Engagement: Effectively utilize alumni and employer connections for mentoring, job shadowing, internships, and networking opportunities to enhance students’ career exploration, development, and placement. Employer & Alumni Engagement:Teach Courses: Teach up to six credit hours of Professional Development courses as assigned. Assist the Director, Dean, and Department Chair by following the Professional Development Department’s approach to curriculum development, experiential learning, and classroom facilitation to provide students with practical skills relevant to their career field. Guide and support students in applying classroom knowledge to real-world experiences. Teach Courses:Data Management: Maintain accurate records of student interactions, placements, and salaries, ensuring efficient organization and data accessibility for program improvement and reporting purposes. Data Management:Collaboration: Develop and maintain proactive and effective relationships with students, alumni, staff, faculty, and employers. Work closely with campus partners to ensure the most effective, cohesive, and beneficial service to students, faculty, and the college. Collaboration:Industry Knowledge: Actively research and stay informed of employment trends, hiring practices, local and national labor market information, and Career Development best practices. Industry Knowledge:Campus Involvement: Actively participate in the campus community and division events, including but not limited to Orientations, Commencement Weekend, and other campus & division events and activities. Assist the Director in representing Career Development at college-wide events, including Open House and Enrollment Days. Campus Involvement:Community Involvement: Attend and actively participate in inter-collegiate and community engagement groups, such as College Town and OneSpartanburg, as needed. The work will include public presentations on and off-campus, with moderate travel required. Some evening and weekend responsibilities.
