The Office of Student Affairs seeks an Assistant Dean of Students on the Worcester campus to assist with division leadership and managing key functions and services to students. The Assistant Dean will work to promote inclusion and retention of all students through programs and activities congruent with the University’s mission and best practices in student success.
The review of candidates will commence starting January 2024 after the winter break.
Student Services (60%)
- Coordinate student conduct matters on the Worcester campus, including report reviews, investigations, correspondence, student hearings, database management and sanction compliance.
- Oversee the Department of Residence Life including providing supervision to the Director of Worcester Residence Life.
- Co-lead a committee to review bias related reports and determine appropriate resolution for student specific reports.
- Collaborate on educational programs and workshops for the campus community on topics of bias related incidents and meet with students regarding complaints of incidents of bias.
- Meet with students and provide support, solutions, and/or referrals as appropriate.
- Serve on the CARE Team comprised of a team of administrators to triage student concerns using a case-management model.
- Provide leadership for the effective use of resources to enhance student services planning, student access and success and overall program and service quality, with a focus on success and retention of Students.
- Assist with the Leave-of-Absence (LOA) processes for the Worcester campus in concert with the academic support offices.
- Meet with students returning from health-related leave of absence or hospitalization to support their return to MCPHS.
- Participates in Administrator On-Call Duty Rotation (including weekends, after hours, break periods and holidays).
- Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of Students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required
Administrative (40%)
- Serve as a member of the Student Affairs leadership team for the Worcester campus, participating in related meetings and professional development programs.
- Assist the Senior Associate Dean of Students with managing and triaging projects and communications for Student Affairs on the Worcester Campus, including crisis management.
- Serve as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator and conduct relevant investigations as needed.
- Participate in revisions and policy upkeep specific to the Student Handbook
- Provide leadership in and responsibility for the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and regulations.
- Work with staff to develop co-curricular activities and services including annual events.
- Manage departmental budgets within the Division.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor.
- Travel to other MCPHS campuses as needed.
Requirements
Required:
- Requires a Master's degree (higher education, counseling, or a related field) and three or more years of experience as a Director/Department Manager in a college/university
- Requires an understanding of the educational, cultural and social needs of a domestic and international student community
- Demonstrate the ability to work individually and as a member of a professional team, establishing strong working relationships across campus constituencies
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to manage confidential materials and maintain confidentiality when working on specific task or projects
- A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks and resources appropriately
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with the complexities of international student transitional needs
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Preferred:
- Experience working with graduate students
- General understanding of FERPA and HIPPA
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings and weekends
- Work is mostly sedentary and majority of time is spent sitting.
