The Assistant Dean for Data Strategy is a key leadership role responsible for oversight of institutional research functions within the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning. This position draws on various data collection procedures, information processing methods, analytical tools, data visualization, and reporting strategies to present information with clarity, validity, reliability, and value to support evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement efforts across BHCC. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Institutional Assessment and Planning, the Assistant Dean collaborates with faculty, administrators, and staff to promote a culture of evidence-based and data-driven decision-making. The Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning reports mandated and requested data and information to BHCC, the State, the federal government, non-governmental and non-profit organizations that support higher education research, and advocacy organizations.
Responsibilities:
1. Management:
- Manage institutional research activities, including data collection, analysis, data visualization dashboards, and reporting to support strategic planning, policy development, and institutional effectiveness.
- Stay current with emerging trends, best practices in institutional research, and regulatory changes.
2. Institutional Research:
- Coordinate developing and maintaining an institutional data warehouse and reporting system to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify research needs, design studies, and disseminate research findings through reports, presentations, and publications.
- Oversee external institutional surveys and questionnaires, including aligning survey questions, results, themes, or meanings with other sources of information to form valuable and powerful results.
3. Program Review and Accreditation:
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of data, supporting academic and administrative units in meeting accreditation requirements and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
4. Data Governance and Compliance:
- Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Oversee and support the preparation and submission of internal ad hoc reports and mandated reports to external agencies, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate research findings and data-driven recommendations to stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities related to institutional research for faculty and staff.
6. Project Management and Development:
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Allocate resources effectively, prioritize projects, and manage workload to ensure timely research and data initiatives are completed.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education, Business Analytics, educational research, statistics, social sciences, or related discipline). Doctorate preferred.
- Three years or equivalent experience in institutional research or related roles within a higher education setting, including experience in a leadership or managerial capacity.
- Experience with IPEDS, regional and professional accreditation reporting, state performance reporting systems; Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), Achieving the Dream (ATD) Annual Reporting, and other higher education reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage institutional research initiatives and supervise research staff.
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences.
- Experience with data governance, warehousing, and reporting systems in higher education.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all institutional levels.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in research practices.
- Strong knowledge of accreditation processes and compliance requirements in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS).
- Experience with data warehouse and business intelligence systems
- Working knowledge of Oracle, SQL, or other database programming language
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Full State Benefits.
