- Reports immediately any needed repairs or failing equipment to the Center Director.
- Is responsible for the welfare, health, and safety of the children in the center.
- Assists calmly in the evacuation of the building in an emergency and practice drills, and can respond to any emergency.
- Cleans and disinfects mouthed toys before subsequent use, chairs and toys when soiled or at least weekly, mats/cots weekly.
- Checks on sleeping infants every 5 minutes and toddlers and preschoolers every 15 minutes.

- Provides a well-balanced schedule of individual/group activities and active/quiet activities.
- Submits weekly curriculum plans to the Center Director.
- Plans open-ended activities that emphasize process orientation and developmentally-appropriate curriculum within the center guidelines.
- Plans supervised activities for outdoor play or indoor gross motor play during severely inclement weather.
- Develops and maintains portfolios and progress reports of children's developmental progress, keeping records, work samples, and other evidence of growth and development.
- Read to children DAILY.
- Set individual goals and objectives for each child according to the center’s curriculum guidelines.

- Communicates with parents daily and reports at least one positive event (accomplishment, an amusing anecdote, etc.) about each child to the parent.
- Treats parents with dignity and respect, recognizing the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the population.
- Make parents aware of classroom and center activities and encourage family involvement.
- Brings any parent feedback, concerns about children, etc., to the attention of the Center Director before discussing with the parent, and document all such parent conversations.
- Ensures that items (papers, dirty clothes, etc.) are taken home and follows up with parents on things to be brought to the center.
- Respect families' confidentiality, and refrain from addressing issues about their child while the child, or other children, are present.
- Participates in parent conferences as needed.
- Experience working with students in a daycare or early childhood education setting
- Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation for young children
- Ability to effectively communicate and educate parents/guardians about the daycare program
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques for working with children, including those with autism
- Strong math skills to assist with enrollment calculations and tuition fees
- Experience in a classroom setting is a plus
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bilingual Required
- A.A, B.A or B.S. College degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field
- Licensure is required
- 2-5 years of early childhood education professional experience
- Working knowledge of CSD CARES, TS Gold, ASQ, ESI-R, CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards, Chicago Early Learning Standards, Prevention Initiatives, and Pre-School For All.
- Working ability in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Knowledge of teacher evaluation and observation methods
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, planning and implementation, and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
- Meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the functions of the role
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, professional work ethic, and appearance with a positive attitude and approachable demeanor
