The Role:
The Asphalt PavingAssistant Project Manager/Project Engineer has responsibility for assisting in estimating the full scope of infrastructure projects (including NC Department of Transportation ("NCDOT"), municipalities and commercial customers), and negotiating the pricing and changes in the scope and scale of work. Additionally, the position will coordinate schedules and material flow with Sunrock general superintendents, customers, and the subcontractor workforce to ensure profitable projects. The role is responsible for communicating, both internally and externally, the status of projects. Additional responsibilities include consolidating and documenting all billing information on a routine basis. The position receives guidance with respect to general objectives. In the majority of tasks and projects assigned, the individual determines methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments while operating within specific policy guidelines. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. The normal work hours are 7:00am - 5:30pm Monday through Friday and evenings, nights, and weekends as needed. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. Must be an effective communicator. Have proven experience of successful project management. Knowledge and understanding of grading and paving industry. Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast paced environment where meeting deadlines and meeting and exceeding customer expectation are of paramount importance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction plans and designs, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to perform digital takeoffs and develop detailed construction estimates for customers and public bids preferred.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Prioritizes tasks.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree required in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field required. One (1) to three (3) years related experience preferred. NC DOT experience a plus. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current North Carolina Driver's License required
