Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled AS400 System Administrator to join our IT team. The AS400 System Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of our AS400 systems, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability. This role involves monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with other IT professionals to support business operations:

• Experience moving non-local storage to AS/400
• Ability to upgrade OS to DB2 for example
• Experience working with tools like Infoview

Key Responsibilities:
System Setup and Configuration:

• Install, configure, and maintain AS400 hardware and software components.
• Such as defining HBA's, configuring them to a VMAX San with storage groups and srdf to the disaster recovery site.
• Being able to do OS Upgrades, Subsystem like Java, Tomcat, etc. upgrades and customizations
• Ensure system resources are appropriately allocated to meet business requirements.
• Set up user accounts and define access permissions.

System Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

• Monitor system performance and take proactive measures to optimize performance.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, system errors, and performance issues.
• Implement system upgrades and patches as needed.

Backup and Recovery:

• Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Regularly back up critical data and ensure data integrity.
• Test and execute disaster recovery plans when necessary.

Security Management:

• Implement security policies and access controls to protect AS400 systems.
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Address security breaches and enforce compliance with security protocols.

User Support:

• Provide technical support to end-users and resolve system-related issues.
• Offer training and guidance to users on AS400 system usage.
• Create and maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.

Software Installation and Updates:

• Manage the installation and updates of AS400 software applications.
• Ensure software licenses are up to date and compliant.
• Collaborate with vendors for technical support and issue resolution.

Capacity Planning:

• Forecast future system requirements based on business needs.
• Plan for hardware and software upgrades as necessary.
• Recommend system improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Ability to audit unused data, applications, libraries to maintain system efficiency.

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:

• Investigate and resolve system-related problems in a timely manner.
• Perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues.

Compliance and Documentation:

• Ensure AS400 systems comply with industry regulations and company policies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as an AS400 System Administrator or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in AS400/IBM iSeries administration.
• Strong knowledge of AS400 hardware and software, including OS/400 (IBM i).
• Experience with system performance tuning and optimization.
• Familiarity with security best practices and access control.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator for IBM i.
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions for AS400.
• Knowledge of programming languages like RPG/PLEX (Report Program Generator).
• Familiarity with AS400-related software and tools.
