AIX System Administrator and IBM Storage
As an AIX System Administrator, your responsibilities include the setup, installation, operation, and maintenance of IBM AIX servers and system hardware and software. You are expected to plan and implement system configuration based on established procedures, complete backups, and monitor to ensure everything you install is functioning correctly. You develop project goals and prepare technical specifications and documents to support security efforts and keep track of problem resolution progress. Your other duties as an AIX System Administrator include analyzing system performance statistics and making changes to reach and maintain maximum performance.
Server Administration:
o Install, configure, and maintain AIX and Linux servers, ensuring high availability and performance.
o Perform system upgrades, patch management, and security enhancements.
o Troubleshoot and resolve server-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
2. User Account Management:
o Create, modify, and delete user accounts as needed.
o Implement access controls and security policies to protect sensitive data.
3. Monitoring and Performance Optimization:
o Monitor system performance and resource utilization.
o Identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies to optimize server performance.
4. Backup and Recovery:
o Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data.
o Test and document disaster recovery procedures.
5. Security and Compliance:
o Implement and maintain security measures to protect against unauthorized access and threats.
o Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
6. Network Connectivity:
o Configure and troubleshoot network connections and protocols.
o Collaborate with network administrators to resolve connectivity issues.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations and procedures.
o Generate regular reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions.
8. Collaboration and Support:
o Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to address technical issues and project requirements.
o Provide technical support to end-users and assist with their AIX and Linux-related inquiries.
Required:
- Experience in AIX administration, Version 6.1, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3
- Strong knowledge of system security, networking, and storage concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud environments (ex. AWS)
- Scripting skills (Shell / perl) for automation and task simplification
- Experience with infrastructure software used in support of AIX environments such as zabbix, lpar2rrd, IBM LDAP, NIM, and/or hardware management console (HMC) is a plus
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
At least two years experience administering AIX in a variety of environments, including virtualized systems, small business and enterprise-class data center
