Description
The City of Hanford Administration Department is seeking to fill one (1) part-time position. Under general supervision, this position performs a wide variety of operations, maintenance, and security activities at the airport facilities; refuels aircrafts; enforces airport rules and regulations; takes immediate action in emergencies; patrols and inspects airport facilities; and performs related work as required.
The Airport Operations Attendant is to perform the full scope of responsibilities under minimal supervision. Incumbents perform a wide variety of duties, which are unique to the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of an airport facility.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports to the Airport Manager.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Refuels aircraft from trucks and the fuel island facility and ensures quality control of aviation fuels.
Collects cash and processes credit cards for fuel and other products and services.
Assists pilots and their passengers with various needs.
Collects various payments from tenants.
Performs preventative maintenance on various equipment such as vehicles, and equipment belonging to the airport.
Performs semi-skilled building maintenance work to include basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, and general custodial duties in the care of the airport buildings.
Performs landscape maintenance on airport grounds by mowing grass and weeds, applying fertilizers and herbicides, pruning trees and shrubs, sweeping walkways and other related work.
Directs incoming aircraft to parking spaces and assists in tie down.
Maintains and repairs airfield lighting systems.
Provides information to the public regarding City airports rules and regulations.
Operates relevant hand tools, power equipment and power tools such as tractors, and riding lawn mowers.
Orders maintenance supplies and equipment within City guidelines and operates City vehicles, trucks, and equipment to fulfill airport needs.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Working knowledge of building and custodial methods, materials, and equipment.
Practical gardening and groundskeeping methods and equipment.
Safe and correct operation and preventive maintenance of light equipment.
Machines and power tools utilized at the airport.
City, federal, state, and government agency laws and regulations pertaining to Airport Operations.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) radio and airport operation procedures.
Ability to:
Operate refueling equipment.
Operate two-way radio communications.
Conduct airfield inspections in accordance with FAA and Cal-Trans requirements.
Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Experience and Education
Any combination of experience, training, and education which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Experience:
Two (2) years of airport maintenance or operations experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
License and Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Additional Information
Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training, and work experience to be followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City's Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
Paid Sick Leave
Employees are eligible to accrue paid sick leave beginning with their first day of employment. Employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour for every thirty (30) hours of work, subject to the maximum annual benefit of forty (40) hours. Unused accrued paid sick leave hours will carry over from one year to the next.
457 Deferred Compensation Plan
Part-Time employees are enrolled in a 457 deferred compensation retirement plan ("PTS Plan") and will contribute 7.5% of their salary. The City is contracted with Mission Square Retirement.
