This is a unique opportunity to join the Community Air Monitoring South Section as an Air Pollution Specialist within the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Monitoring and Laboratory Division. This position will support the Community Air Protection Program, which is a product of AB 617 and is focused on reducing Air Pollution exposure in California's most impacted neighborhoods.
The Community Air Monitoring South Section conducts air monitoring projects utilizing traditional and non-traditional air monitoring technologies and methods. The section is responsible for conducting community air monitoring campaigns and related community and district outreach to support the Agency's goals. Sampling/monitoring is conducted in communities to survey neighborhoods for adverse air quality impacts from near-by industrial facilities and other sources. The section is also responsible for the monitoring of greenhouse gases, short lived climate pollutants, and the ceilometer network.
This Air Pollution Specialist position will perform Community Monitoring campaigns. This position will deploy ambient air monitors in communities located throughout the state. The position will also coordinate internally and externally to secure right of entry including preparing appropriate documentation and gaining necessary approvals. The position is responsible for reviewing and evaluating data from the monitors, conducting quality control measures and reporting the resulting data. Travel may be required up to 30% of the time. This position requires that the incumbent be available for occasional travel for extended periods, temporary work at remote locations, and working outside of regular business hours. Working outdoors, handling monitoring equipment, and climbing ladders and stairs is required.
This position also requires the employee to possess a valid California driver's license, occasionally use personal transportation for business, and to maintain certification in first-aid/CPR and defensive driver training.
The use of steel-toed boots, hardhats, goggles, gloves, and other personal protective equipment are required for this position as determined to be appropriate by the supervisor, Health and Safety Officer, and as field safety circumstances dictate.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The p ositions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
