The Testing and Counseling Specialist is responsible for conducting HIV/STI tests, providing pre- and post-test counseling, and ensuring the strictest confidentiality and consent procedures are followed. The specialist collaborates closely with healthcare providers, clinical teams, and management, playing an integral role in early detection, prevention of HIV, and linkage to care for those diagnosed.
This role is on-site in Sacramento, CA (95811).
Essential Functions
- Conduct rapid HIV tests and interpret the results, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- Provide pre-test and post-test counseling in a compassionate, informative, and confidential manner.
- Offer appropriate education about HIV transmission, prevention, and linkage to care post-diagnosis.
- Maintain an up-to-date and confidential database of all clients tested, ensuring data integrity and privacy.
- Connect patients with positive results to relevant healthcare services, offering guidance on next steps and available resources.
- Adhere to all safety and standard operating procedures related to HIV Testing and Counseling.
- Engage in continuous training and professional development to stay updated with the latest best practices and advancements in the field of HIV/AIDS.
- Collaborate with community outreach programs to promote HIV Testing and awareness.
Additional Duties
- Support in the development of HIV Testing and prevention campaigns.
- Assist in inventory management of testing kits and other related supplies.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or department.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma
- Certification in HIV Testing and Counseling or the ability to obtain such certification within 6 months of hire.
- BLS Certificate
- Must have a valid CA drivers license and adequate insurance on registered vehicle. Field testing is required for this position.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a related field, preferably HIV testing or counseling.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends, based on testing requirements.
Preferred
- Previous experience working with the HIV community preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records
