POSITION OVERVIEW
Under direction of the Building Principal, the Agriculture Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
  • Provide students with educational and equitable experiences leading to career preparation, continued education, and employment.
  • Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction.
  • Work towards preparing students for summer competition in the State Fair, COLT Leadership, FFA and other state leadership programs.
  • Support student competitions in the Delaware State Fair
  • Develop, maintain, and update curriculum and lessons that would align with district requirements for all courses offered.
  • Instructional materials and instructional methods used to make teaching and learning engaging.
  • Basic skills and abilities of students developed in the school laboratory.
  • Establish and maintain open basis of communication with students, parents, staff, administration and community.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and maintain discipline according to handbook.
  • Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction.
  • Provides data for student decisions and demonstrates flexibility in the resolution of student issues.
  • Knowledge and use of technology in the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district and administrative policy (rosters, entries, registrations, field trips, FFA, etc.).
  • Plan and conduct an organized program of instruction and/or community involvement with students that would integrate their knowledge and training into the school and/or local community.
  • Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. required by the local, district, area, state, and office promptly, and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
  • Participate in Professional Improvement/Development/Professional Learning Communities-demonstrating responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Attend State Professional Improvement Conference for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Teachers.

  • Participating and attending an advisory committee and others in determining improvements needed.
  • Supervise students at all off-campus activities such as conventions, contests, workshops, field trips, etc., associated with the agriculture, food, and natural resources program and the FFA in accordance with school, district, and state policy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Below are the qualifications for this position:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Applicant must meet the State of Delaware certification requirements for Agricultural Science
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
