Summary Statement
Are you looking for small class sizes and the ability to truly make a difference in a student's educational journey? Our teachers provide instructional planning, monitoring, and support of educational needs of our students by organizing and delivering instruction using the approved curriculum. The role of the Sceince teacher exists to provide secondary Science instruction to youth in the Education Unit. This postion will report to one of two facilities located at 1825 Faulkland Road, Wilmington, DE 19805. Unique characteristics of teaching in this setting include:
  • Small classes of between 2 and 12 students, on average
  • Youth Rehabilitative Specialist (YRS) staff in the room with you to assist with behavioral expectations and consequences, as needed
  • Occasional mixed grade/age levels in classes, depending upon current enrollment and student needs
  • Stipend included in pay for teaching an abbreviated schedule over the summer
  • Three-week summer break, in addition to scheduled holiday breaks (Christmas, Easter, etc.)

Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position.
  1. Designs an instructional program based on core curriculum/state standards and adapted to meet individual needs.
  2. Implements a successful classroom management system within the guidelines of the facility's behavior management program.
  3. Assesses students in assigned certification/content area(s).
  4. Collaborates/communicates with members of the Education Unit and other service providers.
  5. Prepares reports and documentation of assessment and progress towards goals.
  6. Complies with Federal, State and Local Regulations, Policies and Procedures.
  7. Remains current in certification research, instructional strategies, and technology.

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
  1. Must hold (or be eligible for) a current, valid teaching license and at least one of the following certificates in the State of Delaware: Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science, Physical Science
  2. K-12 Special Education certification preferred, but not required.
  3. Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree from an accredited University.
  4. Must be available to work during the summer, as our schools operate year-round.
  5. Demonstrated evidence on knowledge regarding best practices in effectively promoting student engagement while increasing student achievement.
  6. Desire to work with alternative populations/at-risk youth.
