Deerfield Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic Adult Services Programming Coordinator to provide successful library programs to our community. Responsibilities include public desk duties, identifying community-relevant programs, scheduling, coordinating, promoting events, managing the adult programming budget, and providing excellent customer service to patrons and employees.

Essential Job Functions:
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons and staff.
- Carry out public desk duties, providing exemplary reference, readers/viewers/listeners advisory and computer assistance.
- Identify programs of interest to our community, in the areas of the arts, history, travel, music, and other categories.
- Contract with performers/presenters, promote, budget, and host library programs.
- Maintain program records, including correspondence, contracts, check requests, tax documents, receipts, and program attendance.
- Submit content for quarterly library newsletter, and coordinate desired media announcements and signage for all events with the Community and Outreach Manager and Communications Coordinator.
- Support and promote the Library at community events such as Community Day, National Library Week, etc. and assist with public relations promotions and events.
- Plan a yearly Adult Reading Program, including coordinating the theme, displays, reading logs, prizes, and promotional materials.
- Be present for, or arrange for a host, for all programs as scheduled.
- Collaborate with other Library departments on larger programming initiatives.
- Create and maintain programming partnerships with community-based organizations.
- Prepare monthly statistics, summarize surveys and evaluations, and write reports as requested or needed.
- Provide for timely and accurate communication with staff members, managers, and the Library Director by coordinating regular meetings and providing clear communications
- Participate in professional groups, listservs, and other opportunities for networking.
- Demonstrate good judgment in the interpretation of Library and departmental policies.
- Actively seek and utilize feedback, ideas and recommendations from staff, patrons, community members and others regarding Adult Programming.
- Perform all work in a safe and courteous manner, including during emergencies.
- Serve as Person In Charge as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- 3 years of experience in a public library setting is required.
- Familiarity with current and emerging trends in adult library programming.
- Appreciation for diversity and a commitment to inclusion, with the ability to engage with diverse populations across all age groups.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to address large groups clearly.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite, social media and various technologies such as e-readers and e-resource platforms like Overdrive, Hoopla, and Kanopy.
