Administrative Assistant I: $1,800.90 - $1,980.52
Administrative Assistant II: $1,985.50 - $2,188.99
The Del Norte County Community Development Department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of Administrative Assistant I/II. This position is classified as Full-Time.
To perform and assist in various administrative and analytical duties with varying degrees of complexity within an assigned department or division. This is a responsible clerical position that requires the ability and experience to perform a variety of complex administrative, managerial and supervisory duties under limited supervision. This position is classified as mid-management.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
  • Assists the department head and/or operational unit supervisor in supervising, coordinating and/or performing the administrative activities of the department, including representing the department/division in meetings with various boards, commissions, and other appropriate agencies or individuals.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations on the basis of analysis and evaluation of various programs and procedures within the operational unit.
  • Assists in the preparation of contract documents, resolutions, personnel actions, and other departmental related functions.
  • Reviews and evaluates various programs and projects with regard to effectiveness, efficiency, workload planning and scheduling.
  • Assists in the department of departmental reports, plans and the annual budget.
  • Monitors, maintains, and supervises departmental budget alterations and procedures.
  • Participates in interdepartmental meetings regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reviews new and proposed legislation pertinent to the department/operational unit.
  • Acts as an informational source regarding unit operations, policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the presentation of various information to advisory boards, commissions and other appropriate agencies or individuals.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
A minimum of one (1) year administrative experience including program analysis and evaluation supplemented by college course work in business, accounting, public administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's Degree is desirable.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires:
  • Working knowledge of modern principles, practices, and procedures of administration of departmental and/or operational unit activities.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications as they pertain to the organization, storage, and retrieval of data information.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications used in budget analysis and administrative evaluation.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques required for budget development and analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistical and measurement methods required for analysis of the efficiency and appropriateness of various programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and monitor the activity of subordinate employees.
  • Ability to analyze administrative and organizational problems and situations.
  • Ability to present appropriate facts and recommendations in graphic, written and oral form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental and other county employees.

Selection Process:

Paid annual leave:
Vacation:
1-5 years of continuous service: 15 working days per year; 6-10 years of continuous service: 20 working days per year; 11-15 years of continuous service: 25 working days per year; 16 years or higher of continuous service: 30 working days per year. Note - Vacation will be available for use after completion of six (6) months of continuous employment.
Sick Leave:
1 day of sick leave with pay for each month of service from the date of
employment. Note - Sick leave shall accrue from the date of initial employment and may be used upon accrual.
Holidays:
13 working days each year.
Floating Holidays:
3 working days each fiscal year. Note - Floating Holidays may be used upon accrual.
Retirement:
The County is a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) integrated with Social Security.
Group Insurance:
The County pays a portion of the employee's group health, dental, vision and life insurance premiums with dependent health and dental care benefits available at group rates.

Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan:
