The Assessor's Office is a busy office working directly with residents, businesses, tourists, and other members of the public with questions about Juneau. Our team actively works to improve processes and streamline workflows as well as serve the community of Juneau fairly and effectively.

- A basic understanding of applicable federal, state and local codes, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to physical & legal property changes.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works (Monday through Friday) 8am - 4:30pm. Your office would be located in downtown Juneau in City Hall.
Typical Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the administrative functions of the office and serves a vital role in meeting our mission of ensuring fair and equitable property tax administration and values.
This position serves as the primary public contact for the office which would include daily interaction with CBJ staff and the public requiring collaborative, analytical, customer service and research skills. Excellent customer service skills are a must.
This position is responsible for updating ownership records for the borough by reviewing documents recorded with the Department of Natural Resources. Experience working with legal descriptions and/or deeds is highly desired. Attention to detail is a high priority of the CBJ Assessors Office.
This position Is responsible for maintaining real property exemptions for all properties within the borough. This role involves providing technical, administrative and customer support to the public and seniors applying for exemptions, as well as supporting Assessor Office Administration functions. This position processes all Hardship Exemptions, applying predefined criteria for qualification. Critical thinking skills are required.
This position oversees market letter distribution and return which are utilized in the valuation process.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School graduation or the equivalent.
Experience:
Six (6) months of clerical experience. This work is equivalent to an Office Assistant with the City & Borough of Juneau or equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
Post-secondary or vocational training may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of: three (3) semester or four (4) quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education is equal to one month of experience.)
Other:
May require a valid Drivers' license at time of appointment and for continued employment.
