Join the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation team as the Adaptive Programming Recreation Supervisor for the Hillsboro Community Senior Center. The center is dedicated to providing inclusive and engaging activities tailored to the unique needs of our seniors, fostering a strong sense of community and promoting social connections for our senior residents. As the Adaptive Programming Recreation Supervisor, you will lead our expanding program designed for older adults of all abilities. Your role involves overseeing a range of engaging programs, activities, lectures, volunteer opportunities, and meal offerings for our diverse community members. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, you will be instrumental in maintaining, developing, and enhancing our recreational programming to enrich the lives of our senior community.
Current and Upcoming Projects:
  • Evaluate Program Effectiveness: Assess the impact of existing recreation programs to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Revise and Update Content: Enhance program content to align with current community needs, emphasizing a broad range of culturally diverse opportunities.
  • Support Living Legacy Endowment: Contribute to the mission, vision, and direction of the Living Legacy Endowment through active involvement in fundraising, marketing, and programming efforts.
  • Diverse Community Outreach: Conduct outreach with diverse communities to expand access to recreational activities for older adults of all abilities and backgrounds.
  • Event Planning and Budgeting: Plan, prepare, and budget for new evening, weekend, or special events.

  • Weekday Lunch: Providing a central gathering point for our senior community.
  • Daily Post-Lunch Food Distribution: Ensuring accessibility and support for nutritional needs.
  • Expanded Accessible Fitness Opportunities: Tailored fitness options designed for older adults.
  • Periodic Health Screenings: Promoting proactive health management.
  • Wellness-Focused Educational Workshops: Informative sessions to enhance well-being.
  • Lectures and Social Events: Fostering a vibrant social environment.
  • Innovative Travel Programs: Exciting day trips and longer excursions.

The Adaptive Programming Recreation Supervisor is instrumental in supporting these programs. They vet instructors and collaborate with our internal programming staff citywide to curate thoughtful programming that aligns with the diverse needs and interests of our senior population.
What You Will Do:
Throughout the week, our dedicated staff and amazing volunteers come together to serve an average of 70 lunches to our community members. As part of your role, you will not only provide direct support for our lunch program but also play a key role in facilitating a positive and organized experience for our volunteers as they contribute to serving our wonderful patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lunch Program Support: Contribute to the smooth operation of our lunch program, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for our community.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Assist in organizing and supporting volunteers, fostering a mutually beneficial experience for both volunteers and patrons.
  • Relationship Building: Engage with volunteers, patrons, community members, and other senior centers, emphasizing the essential role of relationships in every aspect of this position.
Strategic Community Engagement:
  • Program Enhancement: Build upon our existing program offerings and explore new, innovative ways to reach our diverse community.
  • Multi-generational Activities: Develop and implement activities that bridge generations, creating a space for learning and growth for both younger and older community members.
  • Cultural Enrichment: Explore and expand activities such as culture nights or classes, celebrating and educating our patrons on the rich tapestry of cultures in the Hillsboro area.

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Education or Public Administration or a closely related field; AND
  • 3 years of recreation and/or programming experience in assigned area of responsibility; INCLUDING
  • 2 years of supervisory experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record

Bilingual incentive pay available:
Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English.
Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
