Job Title:            Accounting Technician II

Job Locations:   City of Norfolk

Schedule:           Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Pay Rate:            $19.15/hourly.

Overview:

Maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing systems, payroll records, time sheets, and related documents. Assists in accounting for capital improvement projects. Performs administrative duties. Assists with budget preparation and monitoring budgetary accounts. Assists customers. Performs financial duties. Processes transactions and prepares checks for distribution. Assists with inventory control. Enters purchase and pay documents into the city’s financial system.

Brief Description:

General Administrative Duties – Copy, Sort, File, Scan, print documentation and sort mail, answer phone and contact vendors, etc., enter data in system to set up vendors, verify payments, process a voucher.

Good communication skills – via email and phone.  Will be consulting vendors to collect invoices and gather documentation.

Detail oriented – Auditing invoices against Purchase Orders, ensure the submissions are correct. Receiving documents for payment. 

Ability to read reports, invoices, and general correspondence.

Ability to perform general math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

Understand general information- W9, Tax exemption, P-Card, PO, Voucher, credit order. 

Essential Functions:

• Performs administrative duties by answering and directing telephone inquiries.
• Process transactions and prepare checks for distribution.
• Cash handling.
• Data entry.
• Assists with budgeting including monitoring and analyzing reports.
• Assists with inventory control by preparing reports and restocking supplies.
• Assists customers by processing payments, conducting research, providing technical support to system users, terminating accounts, arranging payment extensions for delinquent accounts, providing information, and resolving any related issues.
• Requires ability to perform general math.

 Requirements:

• Knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/ one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.
• Must have two years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
