Description
Responsible for assisting utility customers in establishing accounts; updates account information, and prepares billings for sewer, water, and/or solid waste customers. Accepts tap fees for new construction. Updates property ownership records, prepares delinquent notices, coordinates disconnections for non-payment and places property liens on delinquent accounts. Receives and responds to a variety of inquiries; researches accounts, and resolves discrepancies. Maintains a variety of records and files.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by college level courses in bookkeeping or accounting, and 4 years of experience in closely related work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have thorough knowledge of accounts receivable practices and procedures and some knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles related to accounts receivable.
General knowledge of laws governing liens, and laws governing the transfer of property required.
Personal computer experience using spreadsheet software required.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to exercise tact and courtesy when interacting with citizens and the general public, both in person and on the phone.Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including personal computers, fax, scanners, calculators, typewriters, copiers, etc. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but involves walking or standing for periods of time, while picking up bills and reports, or when dropping off checks, or while assisting customers at the counter. When retrieving files and records, some bending and stooping is involved. Work involves some lifting of boxes of paper, reports, and files, usually no more than 5-10 pounds.
