Column is looking to hire a full-time Accounting Operations Manager to join our Operations team. The Accounting Operations Manager will report directly to our Head of Operations, Lea Boreland, and should be excited about being the first accounting hire at a growth-stage tech startup. As the Accounting Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in the integrity and efficiency of our accounting lifecycle, specifically within the order-to-cash process. Your ability to understand and own the accounting and customer financial data ecosystem will be essential to our finance operations.
What You'll Do
- First Week: You will learn about Column's mission and vision, seek to understand our existing finance and revenue processes, and begin meeting other folks on the team. We're a small company that's growing quickly, so interpersonal rapport is essential.
- First Month: You will comprehensively review our existing financial procedures, including product transactions and billing flows. You will begin training on company-specific data infrastructure, focusing on SQL, Excel, and our ERP/CQP system, and build out an accounting roadmap to address gaps and optimize current processes.
- First Six Months: You will b uild a foundational understanding of how transactions are currently booked. You will begin hands-on work with AR processes, identifying opportunities for manual adjustments and efficiency improvements. As well as dive deeper into customer billing scenarios, especially subscription services.
- First Year: You will fully own AP/AR systems management and optimization. You will successfully collaborate with product and accounting teams, resulting in streamlined transaction and cash flow processes. While maintaining a proven track record of recommended and enacted policies and procedures that enhance accounting infrastructure.
Our Ideal Candidate
- You have 5 years of experience in a similar role, such as Controller, Accounting Operations Manager, Finance Operations Manager, or Technical Product Manager focusing on payments and accounting.
- You have accounting experience in or with a high transaction volume software marketplace (Instacart, AirBnB, StockX, etc.)
- You have Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL and Excel.
- You have experience with customer billing systems and subscription service models.
- You have in-depth knowledge of CQP and ERP system
- You have a solid desire to exemplify our operating principles - be worthy of trust, do the hard work, never stop learning, intentionally build community, and tell a better story
- It would be nice to have Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CMA) or accounting, auditing, or associate experience at a Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY) or regional accounting firm.

- Base salary of $120,000 - $150,000 commensurate with experience, plus stock options and a 401k plan with a 5% match
- For candidates outside of the US, we use a market multiplier and 12-month trailing conversion rate to convert on-target earnings into local currency. We also offer a meaningful equity stake and retirement plans relevant to the country (e.g., a pension plan in the UK)
