Elevate your career with Dickson Frohlich Phillips Burgess, a thriving and dynamic mid-size law firm that is actively seeking an experienced and reliable office professional to join our team as a full-time Accounting Clerk/Bookkeeper. This exciting opportunity is based at our main office in downtown Tacoma, WA.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a finance/accounting-related field or commensurate experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related business role.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and MS Excel.
- Law firm experience is preferred.
Key Competencies
- Understanding and application of accounting principles including general ledger management and reconciliation, transaction recording, and bank account reconciliation.
- Experience processing or auditing payroll for a mid-size office, including assisting with payroll related benefits administration.
- Experience filing monthly and quarterly city and state tax returns and annual property tax returns. (Washington and Oregon)
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy, especially with data entry and data review.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptable; Able to learn and retain new accounting procedures, tax filing processes and related programs.
- Able to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
- Ability to self-start and work independently, especially with recurring tasks, as well as work under the direction of a supervisor.
Job Duties
- Accounts Payable: Oversee the end-to-end payment process for bills, employee reimbursements, taxes, etc.
- Accounts Receivable: Process bank deposits and transfers; Perform regular bank account reconciliations.
- Law Firm Accounting: Data entry and payment application to invoices in Clio software; Track case expenses and manage client trust accounting; Cross-train on trust account reconciliation. **Note: Invoicing and collections are handled by a separate team.
- Financial Record Keeping: Maintain all financial records, keeping them up to date.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file City and State tax returns for multiple office locations
- Run payroll twice monthly, for approximately 50 employees.
- Serve as the focal person for W-9 and 1099 forms.
- Work closely with the Controller to compile necessary reports and information for federal tax returns as needed.
- Other accounting and reporting duties as assigned. This position reports to the firm's Controller.
Physical Requirements:
This is primarily a seated or standing position working at a desk. Repetitive actions like using a mouse and keyboard, looking at computer monitors and using the phone will be daily components of the work. Occasional travel locally, e.g., to the bank or USPS, may be required.
