Job Description
Job Description: The Support Specialist performs administrative functions and duties to support Honors, Study Abroad, Transfer, and other academic initiatives.
You must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia for this position.
Duties and Tasks:
  • Coordinate the collection and processing of student forms for Study Abroad, Honors, and college-wide transfer events.
  • Coordinate student participation for college-wide transfer and Honors events.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students interested in Study Abroad.
  • Assist with event scheduling, organization, delivery, and promotion.
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, flyers, newsletters, etc.
  • Receive and manage documents and files; collect and organize data; maintain confidentiality.
  • Support data analysis for academic initiatives.
  • Create and update databases and other record-keeping systems; maintain a variety of records.
  • Collaborate effectively with a diverse team and various stakeholders.
  • Completion of other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Ability to problem solve (i.e., apply logical sequences to analyze and resolve issues) and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Ability to support event planning, logistics, and delivery.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of standard business protocol and office systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, including the MS Office and Google suites.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience creating databases.
  • Experience working with confidential documentation.
  • Experience working with students.
  • Experience planning major events.
