About the Position:
This position leads the Office of Student Success & Academic Services and is responsible for the development of initiatives that promote student engagement, academic advising, and Student success and retention efforts for the Costello College of Business (CCB) undergraduate programs.
Responsibilities:
Supervisor:
- Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with the university's plans and vision and communicates them to subordinates;
- Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks;
- Monitors employee productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching;
- Receives complaints and resolves problems; maintains timekeeping and personnel records;
- Passes on information from upper management to employees and vice versa;
- Prepares and submits performance evaluations;
- Decides on rewards and promotions based on performance;
- Hires and trains new employees; ensures adherence to legal and university policies and procedures and undertakes disciplinary actions if the need arises; and
- Leads all staff meetings for OSSAS office employees on a bi-weekly basis, provides relevant updates for the entire team, and assists with planning all staff retreats each year.
Academic Services and Advising:
- Directs new initiatives for undergraduate programs that support the strategic vision of Mason and the Costello College of Business and highlight accreditation guidelines that best facilitate the overall success of business students;
- Addresses student feedback & concerns and works to establish and improve upon policies and procedures that are sensitive to issues of fairness, equity, and accessibility;
- Creates and maintains student-focused, high-quality academic services that frame the student experience from orientation through commencement;
- Works closely with policy (federal, state, and institutional) as well as accreditation policies and procedures and equitably apply to Undergraduate Academic affairs and services;
- Develops and maintains strong partnerships within the College of Business and across Mason to support student academic services initiatives campus-wide; and
- Initiates, implements, and reviews academic policies and instruct faculty and staff members in the application of these policies.
Student Engagement:
- Partners with the Assistant Dean to develop, communicate, and execute a shared strategy for undergraduate programs that emphasizes student engagement and success initiatives that support a dynamic and global undergraduate program;
- Leads efforts of the Office of Student Success and Academic Services in the development of student engagement initiatives for a diverse population;
- Collaborates with the Business Career Services team on joint programming and workshops for students;
- Responds to student e-mails to dean's office;
- Assists the recruitment and engagement team with recruitment efforts on behalf of the Costello College of Business;
- Represents the Costello College of Business at recruiting events and assists with recruitment campaigns for in and out-of-state students;
- Reviews and manages all CCB student grievances and complaints and serves as the liaison to the University Student Complaints System; and
- Tracks all grievances and responses in Salesforce and maintain detailed grievance procedures in accordance with SACSCOC guidelines.
Student Success and Retention:
- Supports the undergraduate team with retention services, provides high quality academic support through regular workshops and events;
- Creates and implements innovative learning opportunities;
- Serves as liaison to Mason Scholar’s selection committee, reviews applications each year and ranks candidates for scholarship;
- Oversees the implementation of experiential learning opportunities in a virtual space for CCB online learners;
- Responsible for internal grant opportunities that support student academic success in business courses;
- Assists the team with reviewing and acting on student request cases and academic terminations; and
- Provides leadership regarding best practices for retention services.
Study Abroad & Global Engagement:
- Reviews and assists students in creating tutorials for Oxford semester abroad program;
- Works closely with the Global Education Office on review and articulation of business courses;
- Supports Academic and Student Affairs work at the Mason Korea campus and provide insight to Mason Korea advising team on the Costello College of Business related matters;
- Reviews and acts on student requests from Mason Korea and INTO Mason; and
- Supports the growth of the Global Engagement Scholar's Program.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in related field;
- Considerable demonstrated supervisory experience;
- Knowledge of computer systems and software including MS Office and ability to learn new systems quickly; and
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a related field;
- Experience in Higher Education; and
- Knowledge of database, reporting, and CRM systems.
