Department Information
The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the largest producers of electrical engineers and computer engineers in the United States. Almost 2,600 students are enrolled in the Schools graduate and undergraduate programs, and in the last academic year, 801 degrees were awarded. All ECE undergraduate and graduate programs are in the top five of the most recent college rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to the main campus in Atlanta, Georgia, ECE also has permanent operations at Georgia Tech-Lorraine in France and Georgia Tech-Shenzhen in China. Graduate students who spend at least one semester each at three Georgia Tech locations (Atlanta, Lorraine, and Shenzhen on three continents: North America, Europe, and Asia) can earn the Georgia Tech Global Engineering Immersion Program (GEIP) Certificate when they receive the Georgia Tech M.S. degree.

Over 110 ECE faculty members are involved in 11 areas of research and education bio engineering, computer systems and software, digital signal processing, electrical energy, electromagnetic, electronic design and applications, nanotechnology, optics and pho tonics, systems and controls, telecommunications, and VLSI systems and digital design and the School is either home to or a key player in almost 20 research centers and consortia.

Job Summary


Provide information and counsel to undergraduate and graduate students within an assigned area regarding their academic pursuits and progress. Prepare and maintain associated student records. Usually concentrate in graduate programs or specialized academic area. May provide work direction to Academic Advisor I and administrative support staff. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: students, parents and faculty, staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: students. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities


Job Duty 1 -
Meet with students concerning questions and issues regarding various aspects of their academic program. May include questions regarding academic program requirements, registration, permits, overloads, degree petitions, change of major, commencement, curriculum, academic progress, and Institute policy.

Job Duty 2 -
Perform reference searches and records access in conjunction with student inquiries.

Job Duty 3 -
Respond to academic administration and faculty requests for assistance in administrative, recruitment or student related matters.

Job Duty 4 -
Prepare assessment reports; maintain student related records, files and databases.

Job Duty 5 -
Review, approve and process curriculum related actions.

Job Duty 6 -
Interact with other academic units in conjunction with joint programs

Job Duty 7 -
May schedule and coordinate student events.

Job Duty 8 -
May provide input to academic unit's planning efforts.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience

Other Required Qualifications
Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours (due to client shift schedules, project requirements).

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Self-starter with the ability to prioritize work effectively, handle multiple projects at any given time, and work well independently,
Proficiency with Banner, Excel, SLATE, DegreeWorks, and Crystal Reports.

SKILLS

This job requires knowledge of advanced university level academic program requirements and related administrative processes within assigned area. Also required are verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and basic computer skills.

  • The Academic Advisor II will advise the MSECE Distance Learning and the MSECE interdisciplinary programs students.
  • Lead group and individual advisement sessions.
  • Interact with other academic units in conjunction with joint programs.
