Description
The Office for Undergraduate Education (OUE) is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor who will work exclusively with international students. The OUE promotes the academic development of Emory College of Arts and Sciences students from orientation to graduation while also supporting departments and faculty. Academic Advising supplements the primary role of faculty advisors, and provides support for students to achieve their academic goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Provides academic advising to undergraduate students to supplement faculty advising. Addresses student academic concerns and provides referrals to campus resources. Develops and leads workshops and programs to enhance advising initiatives.
  • Builds links with other university offices and support services such as Campus Life, International Student and Scholar Programs, and the Center for International Programs Abroad. Assists with academic orientation activities. Develops and manages database records and reports. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree in education or discipline related to academic advising assignment and one year of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and data collection and analysis experience preferred.

Additional Job Information:
The Academic Advisor will work directly with students as well as:
• Maintain a proactive advising caseload, including routine and urgent student cases, and meetings with at-risk students. Other hours will involve meetings and administrative work.
• Keep notes of all advising sessions.
• Become familiar with services in OUE and across campus to make appropriate referrals to offices and resources on campus.
• Lead advising programs, workshops, and presentations.
• Advisors may be asked to develop specialized expertise on advising issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A master's degree in a relevant field, including higher education or a liberal arts field, is preferred.
• Experience working as an Academic Advisor in an academic affairs office or similar setting is preferred.
• Experience living abroad and/or study abroad experience in high school or college.
• Experience working with international student populations on a university campus.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
