SUMMARY
The Academic Advisor advises students concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, transcripts, career pathways and other academic activities and career goals, to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES includes, but not limited to the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.


● Discuss, develops, and implements the comprehensive school counseling program under the direction of the school administration.
● Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program.
● Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school-counseling program to the FIELD/EPIC stakeholders (or school administration).
● Uses data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs.
● Provides leadership and collaboration with EPIC Teachers to implement a guidance plan for high school students.
● Collaborates with students, families, and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
● Prepares and delivers presentations in the classes, which covers financial aid, per WIOA, ETR, and CCEC requirements.
● Attends trainings and conferences to stay current with college enrollment processes and requirements and financial aid including, but not limited to FAFSA, Cal Grants, scholarships, community college fee waivers, enrollment residency requirements, and course requirements.
● Plans and conducts job and career information presentations, and/or fairs.
● Plans and conducts college information nights and financial aid sessions.
● Plans and conducts student field trips to colleges, and work/career related locations in coordination with the site teacher.
● Coordinates with social service agencies to provide services to students.

● Meets with individual students to create academic plans in collaboration with Career Technical Education (CTE) Teachers.
● Evaluates student class schedules and monitor those for accuracy per graduation plan and notifies teaches when there are discrepancies.
● Shares information with students and teachers and notifies teachers of any issues that arise.
● Assess student transcripts and ensure the completion of graduation requirements including travel to the sites to review all student records and meets 1:1 with the students.
● Research mental health programs and services to address barriers.
● Completes and/or verifies credit-tracking sheets for each student and provides them with a graduation plan.
● Monitors and runs graduation check reports every grading period and approve graduation status for students.
● Model and demonstrate essential counseling skills, techniques, and strategies in individual counseling, including but not limited to address social/emotional and mental health needs, crises and traumas that are barriers to student achievement.
● Consults and collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns or needs.
● Asses’ procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling and guidance services.
● Refers students to community services for individual needs such as childcare, transportation, housing per WIOA, and ETR requirements.
● Assists teachers with student behavioral management requiring intervention.
● Provides individual and group counseling to students.
● Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.
● May need to substitute teach classes as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Knowledge and consistent practice of policies and procedures for FIELD/EPIC.
● Knowledge and consistent practice of the ethical guidelines as outlined by FIELD/EPIC and federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
● Knowledge of California Education Codes (49600 and 49602).

● Knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
● Skill in counseling and developing student performance.
● Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate student needs.
● Able to assist students with transition from school to career; also able to focus on learning about pathways to college and career education.
● Must be able to use technology resources to enhance school-counseling programs.
● Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information.
● Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
● Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.
● Must be detail oriented and organized.
● Must be a team player.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s degree, required.
● Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or an academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities, preferred.
● Minimum of 1 year of school advising or experience in advising in related academic functions. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance.
    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to travel as needed/required.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple school sites and meet with students as needed.


LANGUAGE SKILLS
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on computer.
