Schedule Details:: 40 Hours a week, mostly in office, with work from home flexibility. Schedule may be condensed into a four day work week. Weekly schedule and work from home days must be discussed and approved by GIS supervisor.

The City of Durango's Information Technology Department is seeking a GIS Analyst to perform a variety of complex duties in the design, development, testing, launch, and maintenance of geographic-driven resources for our 911 Communications Center. In this position, you will play an important role in facilitating both City-wide and department-specific decision-making processes. From data conversion, preparation, cleaning, standardizing, and normalizing to implementing and logical mapping, your expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be instrumental in harnessing the power of spatial data to optimize public safety services.
Essential Job Duties
What You'll Do in This Role:
- Develop and maintain spatial databases for infrastructure mapping and geographic analysis.
- Apply GIS spatial analysis techniques, such as geoprocessing, geocoding, linear referencing, dynamic segmentation, and overlay analysis to solve real-world problems.
- Update and maintain the 911 database using data from city, county, and tribal organizations.
- Collaborate with 911 staff, city, county, and tribal organizations to optimize GIS services for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
- Assist the GIS Supervisor in maintaining and upgrading the 911 Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) server infrastructure; provide GIS solutions for La Plata and Southern Ute dispatch centers.
- Prepare reports, maps, and data related to E9-1-1.
- Manage and update the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) in coordination with vendors and contract organizations.
- Train staff in using GIS interfaces and databases.
- Develop and refine methodologies for map preparation, data entry, and plotting.
- Plan methods to gather and analyze special data for maps, tables, and reports.
- Analyze engineering, public safety, and community development data to create quantitative and qualitative analytics.
- Maintain ESRI mapping solutions for the 911 Emergency Communication Center.
- Strive for operational improvement, streamline work processes, and enhance customer service quality.
Minimum Qualifications
You Have:
- Bachelor's degree with major course work in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Cartography, or a related field.
- Ability to obtain Spillman Application Administrator (SAA) Certification within one year.
- Ability to complete specific National Emergency Number Association (NENA) GIS training related to PSAP and Next Generation 9-1-1 databases within 6 months.
- Knowledge of advanced practices, processes, and methods of GIS-based mapping and data management.
- Proficiency in digitizing and data manipulation procedures for GIS.
- Ability to analyze data and develop logical solutions to complex computer application problems.
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical publications, manuals, legal descriptions, and maps.
