The Role:
The Computational Science team at Moderna is seeking a Masters level intern to support our research and discovery efforts this summer. This Intern will learn the ins and outs of mRNA therapeutics firsthand and gain valuable experience engaging with the diverse applications of computational science at Moderna, ranging from mRNA sequence design to systems biology, advanced statistics, bioinformatics, lipid nano particles design, protein modeling, and many more. The Computational Science Intern will contribute to a variety of different strategic initiatives to further the teams impact as Moderna strives towards its ambitious 15 in 5 goal. This position will be on-site at Cambridge MA.
Here's What Youll Do:
Contribute strategically alongside our multi-disciplinary teams in our departments (e.g., molecular biologists, immunologists, chemical biologists, chemical engineers) to accomplish goals and objectives supporting Moderns research and discovery efforts
Learn first-hand Modernas process to mRNA therapeutic research and discovery through company-wide research seminars, departmental meetings and cross-functional team meetings
Present your work to team members regularly to the entire Moderna Research and Early Development organization.
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
Currently enrolled in a full-time Masters in Biotechnology or similar Masters program
4+ years of relevant work experience in technology, biotechnology, or pharma
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced verbal and written communication skills to deliver a compelling narrative/message to senior stakeholders in the organization
Deep scientific and technical expertise in state-of-the-art computational protein modeling and design methods is highly desirable.
Familiarity with the role of early-stage computational strategies in predicting the risk of late-stage failure of antibody candidates.
Experience developing new ML/DL models including language models and variational auto encoders is preferred.
Ability to develop automated workflows for easy access and high throughput usage.
Interest in staying updated with scientific literature and incorporating publicly available antibody modeling and analysis tools into workflows.
Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and pivot fearlessly based on real-time data
Comfort with ambiguity and with designing and executing projects simultaneously
Strong business acumen, analytical skills, demonstrated success with cross-functional collaboration, and a high EQ
