Drivers participating in telematics programs record their trips and receive feedback about their performance. The behavioral Data Science team uncovers patterns in users' driving and program participation behavior (trip recording, risk events, app engagement, improvement, and longevity) and uses these insights to help drivers improve individually and to inform the public about the state of driving risk and the impact of efforts to increase road safety.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and model individual driving behavior and program behavior to relate a user's habits to risk and engagement, and help incorporate results into the overall telematics system
- Analyze and model population level risk behavior in geographical areas of interest to inform roadway safety initiatives
- Create and deliver data visualizations, presentations, and other materials as needed and communicate findings to internal stakeholders, customers, and the public
- Complete any additional tasks as they arise
Requirements:
- Students (graduates and undergraduates) and recent grads can apply
Strong investigative skills and intellectual curiosity - Fluency with statistical analysis and data wrangling: the ability to update and retrieve data, clean it, highlight changes and incongruencies, and deliver understandable insights and opinions on the results
- Familiarity with software tools necessary to manipulate, analyze, and visualize data (e.g., SQL, python, pyspark, data visualization tools such as Tableau, and visualization of data on maps)
- Strong technical communication skills demonstrated through written, oral, and visual presentation of data for technical and non-technical audiences alike
