Form of workThe Role:
This position is within the Protein Science group and provides the opportunity to produce and characterize recombinant proteins, with the goal of expanding our understanding of the biology of mRNA therapeutics and improving their design and manufacture.
Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, and related majors are encouraged to apply. The position will be located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and run from July 15th- December 13th. All co-ops must be able to commit to the entire duration of the program on-site for 40 hrs/week,
Heres What Youll Do:
Molecular cloning, plasmid preparation and propagation
Protein expression in Escherichiacoli and mammalian cells
Testing and optimizing expression conditions
Protein purification by chromatography-based methods (affinity, ion exchange, size-exclusion, use of FPLC systems for semi-automated purifications is preferred)
Characterization of proteins by standard biochemical techniques (SDS-PAGE, western blots, thermal melts or activity assays).
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
Currently enrolled Junior or Senior
Previous co-op or intern experience preferred
Must have completed laboratory-intensive coursework in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or similar discipline
Previous experience with recombinant protein expression and purification preferred
Must be eager, open to learning, and dedicated to high-quality science
