Strategic Importance of this Role

The Quality Technician supports company quality objectives by inspecting products, conducting product and process verification tasks and providing overall quality assurance assistance. Understands material certifications, material properties of steel, basic statistical process controls in a manufacturing environment, process variation, sampling plans, and inspection techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Leadership Competencies

The Quality Technician utilizes knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and instructions to ensure that all items are designed and built correctly. Must be able to understand and interpret Geometrical Dimensions & Tolerance (GD&T).

Execution of Quality Responsibilities

  • Create inspection plans for production based off the print and customer requirements.
  • Complete first part inspections, in-process inspections and final inspections.
  • Measures and collects data for PPAP documentation (ISIR’s, Control Plans, FMEA’s, etc.)
  • Select and utilize appropriate quality measurement tool and utilize proper inspection techniques to perform dimensional, material, and visual inspection verification of product for compliance to engineering drawings, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Operate quality measurement devices such as CMM, Romer, and FaroArm.

Lean Initiatives

  • Drive, implement, and maintain lean initiatives.
  • Assist in the identification of cost savings goals.

Maintains Quality Standards

  • Embraces the Quality Management System in all activities.
  • Train and coach quality inspectors.
  • Responsible for maintaining a neat work environment and for conforming to applicable quality standards.
  • Applies internal quality policies and procedures in support of the Company’s mission and customer standards.

  • Strong conflict resolution skills and leadership experience.
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for assigned tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach in problem-solving and decision-making being accountable for the outcomes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Associate degree in Engineering or 4 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using CMM, FaroArm, or Romer preferred.

Tech Skills:

  • Advanced computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Database systems.
  • Critical Thinking: Able to display high level reasoning skills to solve multiple, complex situations.
  • Job Knowledge: Understands duties and responsibilities, has necessary job knowledge, has necessary technical skills, understands company mission/values, keeps job knowledge current, is in command of critical issues.
  • Quantitative Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Technical Skills: Understands specialty equipment, keeps knowledge up-to-date, is a technical resource for others, follows technology practices and standards
  • Decision Making/Judgment: Recognizes problems and responds, systematically gathers information, sorts through complex issues, seeks input from others, addresses root cause of issues, makes timely decisions, can make difficult decisions, uses consensus when possible, and communicates decisions to others.
  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task,
  • Stand for extended periods of time, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
