General Summary:
The Youth Instructors are responsible for connecting with their students and delivering specific program curriculum. They excite, educate, and develop their students as climbers and little humans. The Youth Instructor reports directly to the Youth Program Manager. They will work with a variety of age ranges and instruct Mini Rockers, Beginning Climbers, Junior Climbers, Camps and have opportunities to do Private Instruction as well.
The Youth Instructor is supported by the Youth Program Manager, as well as the Assistant Operations Manager and the Operations Manager. The Youth Instructor can expect the Youth Program Manager to provide timely and direct feedback on areas of needed improvement, as well as advocate for her/him. The Youth Instructor may work in close coordination with the Front Desk staff and their Shift Leaders.
Core Functions:
- Exemplify outstanding customer service fitting with the Edgeworks Core Values, Mission and Brand while constantly displaying a positive attitude.
- Shifts start 15 minutes before the class to prepare any materials necessary, as well as to check-in all students at the start of class.
- Maintain a positive attitude for the duration of the class.
- Provide clear communication to other staff, parents, and students.
Principal Activities:
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
- Arrive at the gym and be ready for the scheduled shift on time. Be available to check students into the gym, help with shoes and/or harness, and provide direction to students at the start of class.
- Meet all needs with a positive attitude and a willingness to help.
- Become familiar with the students in each class and be able to communicate students strengths, weaknesses, and needs with parents frequently.
- Become familiar with all Edgeworks memberships, programs, products and retail offerings to the extent that the Youth Instructor can direct students to the right person or place to find further information.
YOUTH PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Become proficient in RGP so that the Youth Instructor is able to check-in students in a timely, efficient manner. Be able to manage waivers and ensure that every participant has a valid waiver before they start climbing. Be able to set up both prepaid memberships and EFT memberships for youth program participants.
- Manage gear needs for classes.
- Give gym orientations and rules in an engaging manner to all new classes and/or students. Make sure that students understand the different rules for during, and outside of, class time.
- Engage the students with the curriculum. Use the curriculum to ensure that all students are leaving the program with the skills necessary to advance.
- Provide detailed feedback in the form of Youth Progress Report at the end of each month/session.
- Clean up after classes. Make sure that all Youth Program supplies are put away, as well as any gear used for the class.
- Be trained to teach and be prepared to teach belay skills to students.
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude and outgoing personality.
- Experience working with youth and/or groups preferred.
- Be self-motivated and able to balance multiple, simultaneous priorities.
- Experience communicating in a clear and efficient manner.
- Be able and willing to receive and give direct, timely and appropriate feedback.
- Have or obtain Edgeworks toprope belay certifications.
- Be ready and motivated to become proficient with an array of available climbing equipment.
- Prefer ages 18+; exceptions may be made for ages 16+ with direct related experience.
Employment Status:
- Hourly, Part-Time, starting at $20.81/hr
