The Art Specialist will work as a member of the care team to help respond to the diverse social and expressive needs of patients and families seeking acute and/or long-term behavioral health care, supporting patients from early childhood through young adulthood. The Art Specialist will implement group and individual sessions, while also collaborating with various interdisciplinary team members to improve patient outcomes.
This Art Specialist will:
- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate art activities for patients and families in a variety of inpatient and clinic areas for individual and/or group settings.
- Prepare and provide appropriate art materials and resources for patients or families with complex medical, behavioral, and developmental needs to explore artistic skill and understanding of the arts.
- Document and communicate patient and family interactions to support the artistic interests and skills of patients and families throughout their hospitalization.
- Delegate routine tasks to assigned students and interns as needed.
- Collaborate with Senior Art Specialist and interdisciplinary team to prepare art curriculum and content for sessions and workshops available to patients, staff, and families.
- Basic knowledge of the foundations and principles of Art practice across multiple modalities (i.e., visual arts, multimedia, graphic design, performing arts, etc.).
- At least a year of experience working with patients and families with some teaching experience in Art.
- General knowledge of computers.
- Excellent communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, and well developed writing skills.
