We are searching for a Youth Coordinatorat Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI) to manage an after-school leadership development curriculum with immigrant high school youth and join the ‘family’ environment at IFSI.

About the role: We are seeking an engaging leader to manage the after-school curriculum and instruction of high school-aged students enrolled in the IFSI PLUS+ Afterschool Program in alignment with IFSI’s mission and program model. Our vision recognizes educating children yields enormous benefits, not only for the children but for society as youth engage and become productive members of the workforce. The Afterschool Program for immigrant youth (primarily from Haiti and primarily newly arrived) runs daily from 2:30pm-6:00pm. This role supports high school students (14-22) in academic, interpersonal, and extracurricular support, while teaching leadership skills and tools for success. The youth leaders this role supports will themselves work with K-8 students.

The Youth Coordinator will mainly focus on developing and facilitating programs for IFSI’s high school leadership program that enhances and supports personal youth education and development.

Key Info:

  • This is a full-time, exempt benefited position reporting to the Director of Programs and working closely with the Academic Coordinator and other After School Program Instructors.
  • This role will begin in the Boston office and will have the exciting opportunity of helping to begin and grow the program in the Brockton office.
  • Working Hours: 11:00am-7:00pm M-F

Responsibilities:

Program Management and Coordination (60%):

  • Support the leadership development of high school students, many who have recently immigrated, through supportive, educational engagement and mentorship.
  • Provide grade-specific academic support (homework help, reading comprehension and math assistance, etc.) to after school students.
  • Develop lesson plans and activities, with a long-term goal of creating longitudinal curriculum
  • Develop individualized goals and curriculum for each student (up to 10-15 students).
  • Check in with each student at least weekly to chart progress and adjust academic support as needed.
  • Connect with students’ schoolteachers to help develop appropriate goals and curriculum plans.
  • Instruct students, maintain discipline, and evaluate each student’s development.
  • Monitor student daily attendance by collecting attendance rosters, overseeing attendance database, and tracking number of days in attendance per student.
  • Communicate with parents regularly, contacting them about absent students and providing updates on students’ progress.
  • Greet students daily and communicate plan for the afternoon.
  • Coordinate tutoring efforts among volunteer tutoring staff.

Administrative (25%):

  • Work closely with Academic Coordinator and other staff to coordinate all aspects of day-to-day operations.
  • Participate in weekly meetings and trainings when necessary.
  • Provide weekly updates to Academic Coordinator on progress and challenges.

Fundraising & Data Management (5%):

  • Assist with compilation of data and anecdotes that can be included in updates to funders in order to support overall organizational well-being.

Organizational Engagement (10%):

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Assist with activities, planning sessions and events that promote staff team building.
  • Contribute via other duties as needed.

What you bring to the role (requirements):

  • 1-2 years of experience working with high school aged children - or relevant transferable skills (please elaborate on your transferable skills in the application)
  • Ability to provide grade-appropriate academic and social-emotional support to high school youth and tailor curriculum and materials to meet individual needs
  • Experience with or transferable skills for classroom management (needed)
  • Motivated team member with the capacity to manage self and others
  • Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
  • Strong record-keeping skills and understanding of why the data matters
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with teachers and other staff, children, parents, and volunteers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Display a caring customer service orientation
  • Maintain confidentiality related to youth and their families

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

  • Fluency in Haitian Creole and/or Spanish strongly preferred
  • Experience working with recent immigrants is desirable
  • Familiarity with Boston Public School system is helpful
  • Familiarity with ISEE and SSAT is helpful
  • Experience with cultural exchange and empowerment is helpful
  • Formal training in education and/or child development is helpful

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $60,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience and language skills
  • IFSI offers a generous benefits package that includes 70% coverage toward health, dental, and vision insurance; all paid holidays; 2 personal days; and PTO accrued at a rate of 1 day per month.

  • Early April: Candidate Assessment (activity with students)
  • Mid-April: Final Round interview with Executive Director (in-person)
