Title: Wellesley METCO Program High SchoolCampus and Bus Monitor
Reports to: METCO Director
Job Goal:
Working closely with the Program Director, Principal and other METCO staff, the Campus Monitor ensures student safety on bus rides to and from school and supports the students throughout the school day.
Performance Responsibilities:
Establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, parents and caregivers, acting as a role model and maintaining high expectations.
Ensure student safety and adherence to school and transportation policies and practices.
Maintain good student bus behavior and conduct.
Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student bus travel details (delays, for example), as necessary.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Secretary to the METCO Director and other Bus Monitors.
Provide positive feedback and appropriate consequences when necessary under the direction of the school administrators.
Consistently work to develop and maintain positive relationships with students and staff within the school setting.
Assist the building principal with cafeteria and playground supervision and building support as needed.
Anticipate and take action when challenges arise in the school, asking for help as appropriate;
Under the supervision of the METCO Director and the School Principal, support students individually or in small groups as needed before, during and after school.
Upon request, provide input for team meetings and conferences. Attend meetings as directed by the METCO Director or School Principal;
Consult with the METCO Director, Principal/Asst. Principals and METCO Academic Liaison regarding parent/caregiver and student communication, academics, and when instances of discipline arise.
Participate in field trips and METCO parent/caregiver meetings involving METCO students and families.
Shall have access to optional district-approved professional development on a space-available basis, to be taken outside of their scheduled work hours without additional compensation
Assume other duties within the scope of the job description as assigned by the METCO Directors and Principal.
Job Qualifications:
The School and Bus Monitor should have experience working with historically underrepresented school-age children and their families. Must be able to board and exit the bus in the Boston area. Must have a High School diploma.
Have the ability to relate to and work with school-age children.
High level of professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment and make decisions within
scope of their authority.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parent/caregivers and the community.
This is an 8 hour per day position, combining the work hours on the bus (morning and afternoon) plus active work hours at the school level.
