Responsible for the lay out, fit, and fabrication of metal components to assemble complex or difficult structural forms, using advanced knowledge of welding and fitting techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. Assist department supervisor and/or manager in coordinating the activities of department welders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operation of torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
- Analyze complex engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding
- Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications on complex or difficult assignments using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding
- Inspect gap variances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring
- Maintain a clean and safe work
- Finish form work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Heat, form, and dress metal parts, using hand tools, torch or arc welding equipment.
- Develop basic to complex templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
- Determine required equipment and welding method to complete complex or difficult assignments, applying advanced knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
- Perform all work in an accordance with quality standards and established safe work.
- Explain and demonstrate welding procedures and techniques to department welders.
- Assist department level welders in resolving technical problems and supervision of complex welding problems.
- May interpret specifications and assignments for department welders.
- May assign and revise work assignments to department welders as required by priorities and work
- Maintain a strong, personal commitment to the safety culture

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) and five to ten years related experience

Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) preferred.
Certificates & Licenses
Certified Welder in GMAW 3G minimum on 3/8" plate and FCAW (3G) on 1" plate. Pipe fitting and welding experience required. Additional welding certifications preferred.
Other Requirements
Prior experience safely operating overhead cranes required.
