Job description

Position Summary
The Web Designer for Stony Brook Medicine will assist in the design, development, and maintenance of the institution's website and digital properties. The Web Designer will work within the Stonybrook Medicine Web team and other key stakeholders across the institution to ensure that the website accurately reflects the institution's brand and messaging. The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful web design. They should also have superior user interface design skills along with the technical knowledge needed to be qualified for this position.
Duties of a Web Designer may include the following but are not limited to:
  • Design and develop web pages and digital properties, including landing pages, microsites, and email templates, that meet the needs of the institution's various departments and audiences.
  • Collaborate and work within the Stonybrook Medicine Web team.
  • Maintain the institution's brand and messaging guidelines set forth by the marketing and communications department.
  • Manage content on the institution's website and digital properties, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to all users.
  • Ensure that the institution's website and digital properties comply with relevant regulations and standards, including those related to accessibility and privacy.
  • Follow up and resolve web issues entered within the helpdesk ticket system.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in web design and development. Make recommendations for improvements to the institution's website and digital properties.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate.

Qualifications
Required:Bachelor's degree in web, graphic or multimedia design or a related field. At least three years of experience in web design and development, with a strong portfolio of work demonstrating expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant technologies. Proficiency in web design tools included within the Adobe Creative Suite such as Dreamweaver, XD and Photoshop. A solid understanding of various website architectures such as Bootstrap as well as using CSS grid layout and CSS Flexbox layout methods. Knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the institution.
Preferred:Experience working with Drupal templates and/or Drupal server environments. Experience working in WordPress, and with WordPress templates. Working knowledge of prototyping software such as Sketch, Figma or Adobe XD. Familiarity with SEO and marketing strategies. Experience with website accessibility testing and remediation in line with web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1 A and AA). Experience working within a healthcare or educational setting.

Posting Overview: This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. An initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date.   • This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $73440 - $87210.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,
Some positions offer shift differentials for Night ($3,700) & Evening ($2,500) as well as $575 for inconvenience for positions not on day shift. Please visit these links to learn more.
