Charge Nurse (RN2)
Full-Time - Permanent
Washington Veterans Home

Our team is excited to announce that we now have an opening for a full-time Charge Nurse (RN2) at the Washington Veterans Home in scenic Port Orchard, Washington!

Please Note: The expected work hours for this position are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on rotating basis. This position is currently an overtime eligible shift. Incumbent may be required to perform mandatory/involuntary overtime shifts.

*$8,000 Relocation Incentive for all Qualifying Candidates!*
*Qualifying candidates are those who are relocating their permanent residents from 200 miles or more away from the WDVA facility in which they will be employed. Candidates must be hired no later than September 1st, 2024 to receive the incentive and must be hired into full-time, permanent positions to be eligible.

*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step T. Step U has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As the Charge Nurse,you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents of the Washington Veterans Home while supervising frontline staff. Your role will champion person-centered care and ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect.

  • Utilizing rehabilitation techniques and gerontological nursing standards.
  • Maintaining health care records according to current policies and procedures.
  • Supervising one licensed practical nurse and eight nursing assistants.
  • Administering medications and treatments (under physician's orders) for members unable to do their own or monitoring self-pour medications of residents.
  • Completing medication administration and treatment plans as ordered by the prescribing health care professional, including transcription of orders, documentation, formulation, and updating of plans of care for the resident on an individualized basis.
  • Maintaining incident log and providing learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on the unit.
  • Encouraging and empowering residents and staff to meet residents' needs and requirements in a respectful and homelike environment.
  • Maintaining open communication and information sharing with staff in an ongoing manner.
  • Assisting with the presentation of training and sharing information with staff.
  • Conducting nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by the condition of the resident and on a quarterly basis for the completion of the minimum data set; including diagnostic procedures.
  • Assuming responsibility for self-development by awareness of new techniques and medications.
  • Serving as a role model for other employees in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and harmonious resident environment while promoting high morale and cooperation.

Required:
  • Current, valid Washington State License to practice as a registered nurse OR multistate license (MSL).
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Possess accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care; ability to plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate.
  • Ability to document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
Preferred/Desired:
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience.
  • Ability to articulate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
  • Experience with assessing, evaluating, and participating in the development of appropriate plans of care. Ability to plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate. Ability to perform selected nursing procedures.

  • Pass annual TB testing.
  • Must maintain a current, valid registered nurse license with Washington State.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • This position is represented by the Washington State Nurses Association.
