To operate, monitor, and maintain water and wastewater utility systems within a defined territory in the Greater Austin-area.
Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, water and wastewater collection systems, and compliance with state and federal operating regulations. Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the VP of Operations and Field Supervisor.
Job Duties
- Perform all aspects of utility operations, sampling, monitoring and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal State and Local regulations governing the water and wastewater systems.
- Assist with the installation and inspection of new water and wastewater utilities.
- Install water meters.
- Assist maintenance department in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant and distribution and collection equipment and machinery.
- Perform on call responsibilities to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the plant and pump stations as scheduled.
- Conduct necessary weekend checks on a rotating basis.
- Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
- Maintain open communications with the supervisors regarding the treatment process and pump stations operation and malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to the systems.
Job Requirements
- Be able to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of water and wastewater systems.
- Perform daily checks of the water and wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations.
- Have a working knowledge of basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair.
Training and Experience Required
- Hold a high school diploma and have adequate experience in operating a water and/or wastewater system
- Hold at least a “C” wastewater treatment license, collections license and “C” surface water license (preferred)
- Hold a “D” Water and Wastewater License (minimum)
- Maintain a Texas Driver’s license and clean driving record
Physical Requirements
- Have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Have adequate respiratory function to utilize a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
