Job description

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.
The Telemetry Research Unit (TRU) is a collaborative team working on technical studies of Water Telemetry monitoring and supporting database development under the project UPWARD. TRU is seeking one Research Data Specialist II (RDSII) who will be responsible for working with a multi-disciplinary team to: develop and implement extract, transform, and load (ETL) pipelines to transfer water monitoring data from data loggers, websites, and application program interfaces (APIs) into Snowflake and other data systems; customize graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and data products based on unit needs; and analyze and visualize monitoring data. The RDSII is required to work independently, think creatively, and communicate effectively.
This position is located at 1001 I Street, 14th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation. This position is required by current policy to work in the Sacramento office twice a month and as required by the supervisor. Other work days are eligible for telework, conditional on supervisor approval and are subject to change based on operational needs or department changes.

  • Experience writing reports, including summarizing documents and results into audience-oriented, concise take-aways.

  • Other Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience with data management systems.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: environmental and/or water resource science, policy, and engineering; hydrology or hydrogeology; and databases and data management.
  • Experience presenting data information and findings.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external customers.
