Department Overview

The Land Acquisition Department assists in negotiating the acquisition of real property and property rights for Company utility facilities. Land Acquisition is a team of more than 30 dedicated real estate professionals providing Acquisition and Appraisal services in support of major Gas and Electric Distribution and Transmission, Environmental Remediation, and Renewable Energy projects.  When litigation is required to acquire the land rights necessary for the installation and protection of company facilities, we provide support to the Law Department.

Position Summary

This position may be headquartered within one of the three Land Acquisition office locations (Fresno, West Sacramento, or Oakland General Office).  Primary support will be to the Land Acquisition team in efforts that enable our ability to deliver for our Hometowns.  All employees are responsible for performing their jobs in accordance with PG&E’s vision and values.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $129,000
Bay Area Maximum: $207,000
&/OR
California Minimum: $123,000
California Maximum: $197,000

Job Responsibilities

•    Responsible for assisting in the integration of land acquisition activities with the greater Land and Environmental Management (L&EM) team to enable our project execution in delivering for our Hometowns.
•    May act as a link with all departments within the L&EM teams such as survey, planning, land rights and acquisition to communicate performance findings, expectations, and process gaps. 
•    Provide functional guidance and assist L&EM project leads in the development of project management reports, cost planning, estimate preparation and metrics reporting. 
•    Provide assistance to the Land Management leads and key land project participants in communicating and recording changes to land acquisition cost estimates and schedules. 
•    Establish communication links between functional areas and L&EM departments as necessary. 
•    Takes ownership of the Land Acquisition guidance documents, workflows, and various initiatives. Recommends new procedures and devise tools necessary to effect high client satisfaction.
•    Responsible for organizing, maintaining, and facilitating review of potential at risk projects and meetings as it pertains to acquisition dependencies.
•    Perform quality control to ensure that the quality and value of service meet client expectations. 
•    May supervise contractors work and approve / process invoices, actively seeks minority vendors and guides them through the CPUC minority certification process, and provides clear direction to PG&E and contractors in performance of day-to-day activities related to Land Acquisition. 
•    Works independently, often at the direction of PG&E senior management. 
•    Managing multiple complex jobs, including overseeing functional land groups or leading a multi-disciplinary land team. 
•    Assignments are broad and highly complex, have major associated risk with high visibility, and require expert judgment in applying and adapting project-related experience and knowledge. 
•    Makes presentations within and external to PG&E. 
•    Serves, or is willing to serve, as a witness in administrative or judicial proceedings such as CPUC hearings regarding matters of PG&E policy or experience. 

Qualifications

Minimum
•    Bachelor’s Degree in business, environmental resources, engineering, forestry, land use or related field; or equivalent experience.
•    13 or more years’ of technical project experience and/or experience in working with land processes or issues. 
•    Senior Right of Way Agent (SRWA) Designation and Association, or Real Estate Appraiser License, or IRWA Certified Appraisal Certification (RW/AC) required.
•    Experience as lead on multiple large and complex Company projects that are “high profile” in nature and carry significant risks for the Company.
•    Up to 50% travel to project sites, different PG&E offices or business partner offices. 
•    Valid California driver’s license.

Desired
•    Advanced degree (MA, MS, or PHD) in applicable field highly preferred, or successful completion of minimum 30 credits/units of coursework in a relevant field such as land use or project management, or lead author of published articles in peer review journals or leadership role in one or more professional organizations related to area of expertise preferred.
•    Real Estate Agent or Broker license 
•    California State Certified Appraiser - Certified General Preferred 
•    MAI Designation with Appraisal Institute
•    Strong understanding of the company’s electric and gas systems.
•    Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences 
•    Ability to manage schedules, provide cost estimates, and ensure projects are completed on time
•    Strong oral and written communication skills
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision
