Position Information
Performs a variety of complex technical tasks, and, in addition, supervises teams of WATER QUALITY TECHNICIANs in the collection and in-situ analyses of water, sediment and other samples; sets up sampling procedures in accordance with Federal and State guidelines; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy:
There is one vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality Division. Position is located at Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. As a working supervisor, the incumbent supervises subordinate Water Quality Technicians and conducts and coordinates Oceanographic Team activities with affected parties. This position performs field collection that may occur island-wide. Adheres to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures and performs all duties in a safe and acceptable manner to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public. Work schedule is Monday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and may include weekends and holidays.
Special Working Conditions: Bends, Squeezes, Embolism, Nitrogen Narcosis, Dangerous marine life (Sharks, eels, etc.), Boating hazards, Waterborne diseases, Infections, Falls, Cuts, and Chemical burns. Will serve as Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of experience in collecting and analyzing oceanographic, laboratory or related data, including or supplemented by one year of experience in WATER QUALITY monitoring.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
1. Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment; and
2. Valid basic SCUBA certificate, at time of application.
