Plans, organizes and coordinates the City's ocean outfall monitoring program; researches, evaluates and makes recommendations on new marine technology, equipment and techniques; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy:
There is one vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality Division. This position is in charge of the Oceanographic Team of the Environmental Quality Division. Independently plans, organizes, and assigns work of the Oceanographic Team performing the functions of monitoring WATER QUALITY and biological communities, collecting ocean currents data and inspecting outfalls in support of sanitary engineering activities of the Division. Using professional knowledge and judgement, evaluates monitoring procedures and new equipment and makes appropriate recommendations for changes.
Special Working Conditions: Ability to operate a boat; ability to climb ladders and walk on uneven, obstructed, moving surfaces such as platforms or a boat; may assist in transporting boat; occasional exposure to ocean and traffic hazards, moderate to heavy lifting/carrying and transporting of equipment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five years of experience in collecting and analyzing oceanographic, laboratory or related data, including or supplemented by two years of experience in supervising the conduct of oceanographic surveys and investigations for WATER QUALITY monitoring purposes.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
1. Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment; and
