The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Warrior Care Network Engagement Specialist works closely with Warrior Care Network (WCN) affiliate hospital partners (Academic Medical Centers (AMCs)), the internal WWP WCN team, and WWP program teammates to develop and execute Warrior and Family Support Member (FSM) virtual programming designed to prepare participants for an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and provide support after IOP treatment. Also assists warriors during the intake process and helps guide them through the treatment journey, including providing WWP support after treatment. The specialist ensures direct ownership of Warrior Experience goals by managing the transition from WWP to partner AMCs and back to WWP programs. This position will help WCN deliver standardized pre/post IOP programming that incorporates support, coaching, and skill practice, delivered by a dedicated WCN teammate.
Note: Warrior Care Network® is a partnership between Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) and four national academic medical centers (AMC) of excellence. In cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), this program connects thousands of warriors with world-class care to battle the invisible wounds of war by filling gaps in government care and reaching those who may otherwise go untreated.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide non-clinical virtual emotional support, coaching, and education to wounded service members, their caregivers, and families participating in the Warrior Care Network program.
- Develop and facilitate virtual programming content via Zoom and other technology-based platforms.
- Serve as subject matter expert in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of virtual group sessions.
- Provides referrals to appropriate program teams.
- Maintains and updates electronic systems to track Warrior and FSM participation in programming.
- Independently manages caseload of participants requiring additional individual support pre and post IOP.
- Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates and AMC partners to provide innovative ways to engage WCN participants.
- Support warriors during the intake process and help guide them through the treatment journey, including providing WWP support after treatment.
- Manage multiple tasks, assignments, and functions, meeting deadlines and deliverables with usage of metrics to meet key performance indicators.
- Participate in ongoing development and training.
- Share internal and external resources based on a participant's needs (example: additional counseling, support groups, educational materials, etc.)
- Develops schedules and itineraries for virtual individual and/or group sessions.
- Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Demonstrated understanding of military and veteran issues, and the emotional impact of combat, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat stress.

EXPERIENCE
Requirements
- Three years of experience working with military or veterans' population in support of their development and readjustment.
- Two years of experience developing and building relationships with veterans, or veteran's or military organizations, or members of the community.
- Two years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members who are dealing with both visible and invisible injuries, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and combat stress.
Preferences
- Three years of experience working with WWP, and having a familiarity of WWP programs and services.
- One year of experience in planning virtual programming for groups.
- One year of experience in case management, coaching for change, or related mentorship skills.
EDUCATION
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree. Equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in social work, clinical psychology, rehabilitation counseling, case management or related mental health field.
