Warehouse Shipping and Receiving

Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for day-to-day warehousing tasks including pulling, packing, and shipping orders, receiving incoming inventory, down-packing bulk materials, stock inventory organization, and general warehouse cleaning and upkeep in accordance with established company policies and procedures with supervision. The software used by J.A. CRAWFORD CO. for this position is SAGE 100, UPS WorldShip, and Freight Starship. Certified Forklift Operator and Certified Hazardous Material Shipper are both a plus.

FULL TIME POSITION:

40 hours per week. Hourly rate. Non-exempt. Potential for Monthly Team Incentive Bonus, and discretionary Christmas Bonus and Fiscal Year End Bonus. Paid Holiday, Paid Vacation, and payment of Health Insurance premium benefits, as outlined per company policy, are included with this position.

SALARY:

$20.00 – $22.00/hour based on experience

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION:

Two (2) years warehouse related experience and/or high school degree or equivalent; or combination of work experience and education.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

English required. Spanish speaking is an extra skill. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, emails, shipping documents, Bill of Ladings, packing lists and memos. Ability to legibly write simple correspondence and record numbers by hand and electronically. Ability to effectively communicate information verbally over the phone, one-on-one and in small group situations, to other employees, and from time to time, vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Punctual, Attentive to Details, Team Worker and Motivated

• Operate forklifts (after completion of forklift safety certification training) and pallet jacks as needed.
• Off-load containers of inventory shipments
• Receive and inspect incoming shipments.
• Complete required paperwork for incoming shipments. Check incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips for shipment accuracy and physical condition.
• Sort and stock incoming shipments in warehouse racking and bins and storage facility.
• Pick orders and pack orders including weighing cartons, preparing parcels, labeling for shipping, and entering required documentation. Entering data into shipping software.
• Review and fill all back orders and blanket orders.
• Down-pack bulk materials into smaller shipping containers.
• Periodically pack and ship materials considered to be hazardous by the Department of Transportation (after completion of hazardous material certification training).
• Prepare shipping orders such as UPS, FedEx, and Less Than Truckload (LTL) Freight.
• Handle wooden shipping pallets and bundle/strap loads for shipping.
• Processing / reading Bill of Lading (BOL)
• Processing / reading Hazardous Materials Documentation / Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
• Maintain all property and warehouse equipment in proper working order.
• During extreme weather events help secure building and property per company instructions.
• Observes and complies with OSHA standards.
• Sweep and clean warehouses to company standards

Performs a variety of other assigned or clerical tasks including assisting sales personnel or others in performance of their duties. Assist in processing annual inventory. Attends and participates in company meetings as required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate simple figures and amounts such as quantity, numbers per pallet, Lot Numbers. Ability to properly determine weight and measure of packaged items and documentation.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or electronic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized warehouse situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Cell phone communication abilities such as Text or Slack, and Internet search; any experience or understanding of SAGE 100 Software is a plus. Warehouse shipping software will be trained.

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
• Standing is a standard working position. Anti-fatigue mats are provided.
• Operating forklift and pallet jack.
• Use of hands to operate order packaging equipment, scales, rolling bins, inter-office telephone communication, and operate computer / mouse.
• The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and bend and twist neck. vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision, including extended interface with computer monitor.

• While performing the duties of this job the employee is in a typical industrial warehouse environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally noisy with brief periods of high noise.
• The warehouse climate temperature is typically moderate with seasons of cold or hot.
• Steel toed boots and work uniform are provided by the company.
